Your album of the year, up to this point.
What is your album of the year up till now?
Make sure that the cd was actually released this year. Mine is easily Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days. |
For me it's a tossup between Interpol's Antics, and Kasabian.
|
Beastie Boys- To the five Burroughs.
|
The Drive-by Trucker's latest, The Dirty South.
|
For me it's got to be Kanye West - College Dropout
Although I've just had delivered a new batch of CDs so perhaps there's something in this list that just tops kanye. Green Day - American Idiot (Quite possible) User - Confesssions (Certainly good, but just how good?) Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane (This is a definite possibility) Robbie Williams - Greatest Hits (Do g. hits compilations count?) |
album of the year - of the day ;) = Kasabian - Kasabian
|
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
Not quite as good as his first, Original Pirate Material, but still genius. |
Gwar - War Party. Hasn't been released yet but the 3 tracks they have released are superb. Gonna be a great album.
|
james tenney--postal pieces
|
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets
Honorable mention: Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice |
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
or Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache |
Hmmm, nothing much is coming to mind; maybe Finn Brothers EVERYONE IS HERE. I also liked some of Nellie McKay's GET AWAY FROM ME. U2 has a chance to take it when they release their new one.
|
Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
|
"Together, We're Heavy" The Polyphonic Spree
|
straylight run "straylight run"
|
Velvet Revolver::Contraband
( second place Nightwish::Once third place Megadeth::The System Has Failed ) |

I'd also list: Reverend Horton Heat - "Revival" Secret Machines - "Now Here is Nowhere" Beastie Boys - "To the 5 Boroughs" |
Nothing really stands out as great, but Id have to vote for the new Rammstein album, 'Reise, Reise'.
|
Maybe even The Fiery Furnaces in my opinion.
|
Blindside - "About A Burning Fire"
Project 86 - "Songs To Burn Your Bridges By" Hazen Street - "Hazen Street" |
orbital - blue album
|
Gotta go with Greenday's "American Idiot".
|
I had to put up with a couple of dissapointing albums this year, but for me, Alexisonfire - Watch Out!
|
Interpol - Antics
|
emotive by a perfect circle. I just got it today and it was released yesterday. Dark, somewhat creepy. Has some pretty grim predictions for the future but this is what the next few years will look like....
Runners up to Sparta: porcelain |
Right now Emotive by A Perfect Circle.
In a month, The Nirvana Box Set. |
Impossible to pick one but
Orbital - Blue Album Soulwax - Any minute now The Haunted - rEVOLVEr are all up there along with many others ;) --jaded |
k-Os- The Joyful Rebellion
Jean Grae- This Week Mos Def- The New Danger |
How did I forget Velvet Revolver? I'll have to add them to the Spree and call it a tie.
|
Tom Waits - Real Gone
By far the best album this year imo |
So many choices!
Hopesfall - A Types The Blood Brothers - Crimes The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat Interpol - Antics Fear Before the March of Flames - Art Damage Mastodon - Leviathan Head Automatica - Decadence Secret Machines - Now Here Is Nowhere These Arms Are Snakes - Oxeneers or The Lion Sleeps When His Antelopes Go Home and so so so much more to choose from..... |
Madvillian-Madvilliany
|
Nirvana box set.
The thing isn't even released yet and it's already the album of the year! Nothing can remotely come close to that. |
This was a bad year for music for me. Nothing stands out as amazing. Some good thinks were the new Fear Factory, Clutch, and Tomahawk.
|
Ummm hello??? Bowling for Soup? Hoobastank? Ashley Simpson???
Because typeface doesn't show how sarcastic I am, I'll have to inform you I HATE all of these... anyone with me??? |
Kristy Thirsk - Souvenir
|
Quote:
I myself enjoy Muse "Absolution" and Concrete Blonde "Mojave." |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - 'Abattoir Blues'
Double CD set with some truly awesome moments of greatness. |
Breaking Benjamins "We are not alone"
|

|
Interpol - Antics
|
The Strokes - Room on Fire
Greenday - American Idiot |
Pinback - Summer in Abaddon, which is really solid, but even only for "Fortress"
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets |
Well, Trent Reznor promises us that the new album, not "Bleedthrough" anymore, now titled "With Teeth", will be out by the end of the year.. But since it isn't out yet....
Modest Mouse - Good news for people who love bad news By the way, anybody heard the new Cake cd? I need to give it a listen.. |
There's a couple:
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety Northstar - Pollyanna Rise Against - Siren Song of the Counter Culture Jimmy Eat World - Futures There's probably more but these stand out to me. Can't wait for the new Coheed and Cambria Album next year and Claudio's next comic in the Winter. |

I read that the first video for it debuted in early 2004, leading me to believe that was when the album came out. I have only been familiar with it for a couple months or so. So it had been out for about a year before I found out about it? Makes me wonder what other awesome music is out there now that I won't hear for a long time... |
i really like the arcade fire - funeral
modest mouse was pretty good too. that seemed like a long time ago, wow. |
Skinny Puppy's "The Greater Wrong of the Right" was awesome.
And Rammstein's "Reise, reise." |
I've said it once and I'll say it again:
Barney Boogie-Barney |
Hot Fuss by The Killers
|

|
I've been listening to Barney Boogie for quite a while(I pick up a friend's children from school). Mr. Knickerbocker is the best song on the album hands down.
|
Guerilla Black - Guerilla City
|
I don't know if they came out this year, but I got em this year:
Chronic Future - Lines in my Face and Slipknot - Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses |
Three of 'em on my list...
Pretend You're Alive - by Lovedrug Demure - by Engine Down Rejoicing in the Hands - by Devendra Banhart (I got 'em this year, they may not all be new albums of '04) |
The Roots - The Tipping Point
|
I can't remember the last new album I bought...
|
From what I've been listening to in the past few days I think I've narrowed my group to a top 6.
1. Mastodon - Leviathan 2. Head Automatica - Decadence 3. The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives 4. Fear Before the March of Flames - Art Damage 5. The Blood Brothers - Crimes 6. These Arms are Snakes - Oxeneers or The Lion Sleeps When its Antelopes Go Home |
