Electronic Dance Music?
Hey, all. I've been looking through the threads, and I haven't seen a whole lot of interest in Electronic Dance Music. Do we have any EDM fans, here? I for one am a fan, and I think I'm in love!
Right now, I've really attached myself to two genres. The first genre is hardcore, and it was hardcore that got me interested in EDM in the first place. I used to be a huge punk rocker, and I loved the driving beats and guitars of all sorts of punk. When I first started to look in to EDM, I discovered the subgenre "Hardcore Techno," which is the fastest of all subgenres of EDM, I think, at BPM's as high as 180 - 200 BPM at times! Its driving beat and crazy-fast pace really atracted me. Some of my favorite Hardcore artists such as Hixxy, Breeze and Styles, Scott Brown, Vinylgroover, etc. My all-time favorites are Sy and Unknown....a wonderful duo! My second favorite subgrenre of EDM is "Goa Trance," also called "Psychedelic Trance" or just "Psy Trance." It's essentially an experimental form of trance with big emphasis on crazy sound effects, a very funky bassline, and a whole lot of syncopation. I'm not a huge music nerd, so I can't describe all of the technical aspects of Goa Trance...but it does indeed have a very distinct sound. My favorite Goa/Psy Trance artists are Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, Hallucinogen, and Alien Project. So any EDM fans or producers here? What are your favorite subgenres and artist? |

I now listen to lots of of Electronic Music. I really enjoy listening to Electronic Goth. In this style of music, I appreciate the gothic/romantic/trance lyrics and the ohhh so wonderful background synth/melodic melodies & rythms
If anyone is interested to talk more in depth about goth music, I will follow !

I am probably the biggest fan of psytrance 'round these parts... absolutely love it. it's saved my life, more than once. I live in Seattle, where I feel blessed to have such a strong psy scene.
It's unfortunate that Infected Mushroom doesn't make psy any more, because they used to be one of the best. If you've heard their new single, Cities of the Future. It's really good pop, though =P... some of my favorite artists include HuxFlux, Digital Talk, Rinkadink, Cosmosis, Hallucinogen (of course), Process, Grapes of Wrath.. oh the list goes on.. !!.. on the flip side, I'm really into SpeedBass, which is to hardcore, what hardcore is to polka. check out www.speedbass.net . just know that the motto is "speed bass sucks" =) also really into IDM, which actually has a very strong thread here in the Music forum, something like "Any IDM/grindcore fans?"... love L'usine, Boards of Canada, Autechre, Matmos, I Am Robot and Proud, Venetian Snares... the list goes on!.. if you want any of these or other, feel free to send me a PM and we'll figure something out. I have a few dozen gigs of music to share =) |

i love the new evolution of electronic music being played by live bands. artificial intelligence is my favorite example (aimusic.com). they're a 3 piece that writes psychedelic/funk/reggae kind of songs (a la police, pink floyd, and prince) and lays down crazy jungle, drum n' bass, and other electronic beats as a foundation. woven (wovenmusic.com) is a 5 piece version of this, but tends to be more ambient and experimentel w/ longer songs. i'd love to hear anything like these guys if y'all have heard it.......
