Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
This is the latest album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and as a long-time Nick Cave fan, I don't think he's lost it at all. He's matured perhaps, but some of the songs on this album prove that he's still got it. Nocturama was good, but a couple of songs didn't sit right with me at all. The new double album is incredible, I can't recommend it highly enough.
I think 'Get Reader For Love' and 'There She Goes, My Beautiful World' are the only songs on the albums that I really don't like. I won't go into how they sound poppy or commercial (seeing as I like 'Nature Boy'), but to me they both sound awful. I'm no good at describing my ideas about music or movies, so I'll just say that I pretty much dislike those two, but songs like 'Let The Bells Ring' (especially that opening guitar, that is absolutely beautiful), 'O Children', 'Babe You Turn Me On', and 'Hiding All Away' just blow my mind. I've only seen him play twice, once for the And No More Shall We Part tour, and again just under a year ago for the Nocturama tour. I can't wait until he comes here again. So after all that rambling, has anyone else got the albums? What do you guys think? |

Not yet, but I read a review the other day that made them sound worthy of purchase. Seems like he's hit a high spot with his writing, and in parts harks back to his glory days era of 'The Mercy Seat' (well, the time he was addicted to smack, anyway - oh, those dark and tortured tunes!). I'll check it out and check back.

If you've never read his novel "And the Ass Saw the Angel" you really should. It's got that good weird southern thing going with crazy ass imagery and every line reads like poetry.
There's a description of spit traveling down a wall that one of my former students read outloud as an example of beautiful writing. Seeing his band playing in the original german language "Wings of Desire" was one of my favorite movie moments.

When did this come out? And how much did you pay for it? Can you notice that Blixa is no longer in the group?
I never pass up the chance for a new Nick Cave album. They are works of art. "Loom of the Land" from Henry's Dream is my favorite love song of anyone. He has lots of great love songs, but that one just does something to me. |
