Green Day - American Idiot

I think this ablum fucking rules. Every song has a catchy beat and is just great to listen to. Any body else listen to it? What do you think?

World's King 09-15-2004 04:10 PM

I thought it came out in a few weeks?

How do you have it? Are you stealing music?

brandon11983 09-15-2004 04:31 PM

Someone get his IP address. I'm sure he'll fetch quite a price to the RIAA.

saut 09-15-2004 07:47 PM

So is it more like Nimrod/Warning or Dookie/Insomniac?

null_duality 09-15-2004 10:48 PM

Its like none of the above.

It's fucking awsome in every way

I will be buying this album and also going to their show in vancouver on nov17th

It's gonna be HARDCORE

itch vaccine 09-15-2004 11:51 PM

Hey I thought the release was on the 21st? :P

Man!

FoolThemAll 09-16-2004 08:42 AM

From my vague recollection of hearing it once, my impression was this: nimrod-era, only more generic-sounding. Didn't like it. (I liked Nimrod, by the way.)

Fly 09-16-2004 09:14 AM

i scored this off kazaa too..............but we're allowed to up here.

likin' it

are you telling me you've never downloaded music from kazaa or any other P2P or file sharing program?

null_duality 09-17-2004 10:16 PM

it's way better then nimrod, but at the same time kinda wierd in that it's got a recurring theme going on throught the entire album.

It's billed as a rock opera, and it really can be way more appreciated listening beginning to end, than if u just mix it up or listen to a couple of tracks.

I've had it going continuously for the past 3 days, virtually the only album i'm listening to right now, and i still pick out little things that i didn't hear before.

example, St. Jimmi, in addition to having his own song, appears in like 3 or 4 other cuts in one liners. Whatsername gets two songs actually, but only one of them is titled whatsername.

to get it, you really gotta listen to the words. This album is about a journey, and you gotta follow the arc completely

brandon11983 09-17-2004 10:26 PM

What is P2P or file sharing program?

You are totally right in saying that you have to listen to it start to finish. All the songs just flow together. I've been listening to it for days now and still can't get enough of it. It's prolly one of my favorite albums of the year.

Good reply :P

I'll have to pick this album up this afternoon

Jeff 09-21-2004 04:12 PM

My roommate just walked in with it. I've listened to most of it. My verdict? Good shit.

Better than their last few efforts.

Redjake 09-22-2004 05:13 AM

I might have to give this some attention. I grew up listening to Green Day. Dookie is one of the best albums in the history of mankind.

shred_head 09-22-2004 03:41 PM

Yeah now I'm getting interested in it. I hadn't planned on giving it a try just because i didn't really like Warning at all and Nimrod only had a few good moments on it. However, all their albums before Nimrod I really love.

And yes it certainly is. One of the best of the best.

itch vaccine 09-23-2004 04:01 AM

Ohho :) Got it today.. it rocks my world :P

The_wall 09-24-2004 01:39 PM

I just picked this album, after listening to it once I say its a really good album, but still can't beat dookie :) Theres defineatly a message in this album though.

09-25-2004 03:58 PM

I absolutely love it! One of the best long-living bands ever, this album represents their evolution, maturity, and diversity. It's going on my christmas list..........

World's King 09-27-2004 08:50 AM

I'm not sure about the message. It's all good that they actually pay attention and aren't just some dumb punks but...

I mean it really is a good album and I haven't stopped listening to it. Good for them.

FoolThemAll 09-27-2004 10:30 AM

I might have to investigate this album beyond the single. I'm a fan of Dookie, the pre-Dookie material, and most of Nimrod. I hated most of Insomniac and Warning. From what others have said in this thread, the album might be right up my alley.

i liked everything from 1039 -> nimrod (not all of the songs but most) and then i hated everything after that until American Idiot, the single was great cos it was like old greenday but the rest of the album isn't much like that.. it's like a more rocked/punked up queen hahahaha

punx1325 10-16-2004 10:24 PM

Ok so I "previewed" a copy of it because I am always skeptical of buying a CD then hating it. I really enjoy the CD, but I cannot get over the low sound quality of my copy. For those of you that physically own it, does your CD have low quality sound? My copy sounds like you are listening to it on the radio, but the bitrate is 192. So I am thinking that my copy is fine. And I know it could be my copy, but for some reason I feel GD was trying to make the CD sound less that perfect.

gyroscope 10-17-2004 05:16 AM

the album is great.a very good rock opera, and the songs jesus of suburbia and homecomming made me speechless when i was listening to them the first time.a punk rock opera is a very inovative idea, and they did a great job in realizing it!

mused76 10-17-2004 06:41 AM

I'm not a huge Green Day fan unless you count their older stuff. My personal beliefs, which you won't like, is that they're has been's. Sorry folks. And now we have Sum 41 who think they are punk? Pffft, yeah right. The Ramones are turning in their graves.

Bodyhammer86 10-17-2004 09:31 AM

Green Day are the only pop-punk band I can stand, and yes, I like American Idiot too.

gyroscope 10-18-2004 11:22 AM

the new sum 41 is influenced by bands like slayer and metallica.it is preety heavy for a band that once made pop-punk.they have found ther own unique style, you can say they now do punk-metal.they aren't as heavy as a real metal band, but if you think about what they did on therir first album, you can only say wow

Tralls 10-18-2004 11:36 AM

Heard the concert in NY at Irving Plaza was amazing...they played the whole album from start to finish. Definitely need to hear the whole thing.

hawkeye 10-19-2004 02:17 AM

I've been playing this album on repeat for the last few days.
I'm liking it a hell of a lot, and I think it's probably my favourite green day album, period.
it's good, solid pop-punk music.

that being said, go, listen to 'give me novacaine' and then go and listen to The Flaming Lips' 'Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1'
the resemblence is scary.

spock 10-20-2004 01:31 AM

I think its an awsome song-i dont have the album (yet) but its getting a helluva lot of play time on th radio here!

more like cheap pop-metal.

I like the new greenday so far, I hated whatever came after nimrod though, except this.

Mr. Pink 10-20-2004 08:35 PM

I'd like to add my 2 cents...
This CD is incredible, especially considering that a band that was (at best) has-beens, produced such a wondeful album...

And please, please, if you're going to post a reply, try to use grammar and some semblance of basic spelling/typing skills...
Please.... For my sensabilities and sanity...

Mr. Pink

CityOfAngels 10-20-2004 10:24 PM

Is this the album w/ "Dearly Beloved" and "Jesus of Suburbia"? I've been listening to a punk online station and they played these songs a few times. I like 'em.

dbc 10-21-2004 08:45 AM

I liked dookie and each album since I've haven't enjoyed as much.

Polyphobic 10-21-2004 10:24 AM

They used to come to my tiny home town twice a year before they hit it big. Never did care for them. Didn't care for any of their albums either. However, American Idiot is a wonderfull album. Count me converted.

dmt767s 11-24-2004 09:50 PM

I swear American Idiot may be better than Dookie, and I agree with those who said Dookie is one of the best albums ever. I love American Idiot, I've been listening to it for two days straight. (Yes, I was very slow to buy it, the first single didn't really appeal to me) It is an AMAZING album.
