I love avril Lavigne.
Ok..
So I have pretty good taste in music, I think. Most of my "favorites" include Guns N roses, blind melon, aphex twin, and Neil Young. I dig pop rock music for it's trendy sound and rap pop for its danceable beat. However, most of these pop artists have one or two listenable tunes, and I would never buy any of their CD's with prices these days. But..I just can't get enough of Avril. I love every single one of her songs; I own both cd's and even have a picture of her as my computer wallpaper. Mind you, I think the whole Sk8rrr rock punk ass girl routine is stupid and tired, and her songs are blatently emo and for the most part, pretty much the same. Nonetheless..I just can't get enough. thought I should share my obsession with someone |
i know someone who listens to almost strictly metal, bands like killswitch engage and lamb of god and the like... and then also avril.
i can't fathom it. |
So you got any nekkid pichas of her?
Asta!! |
I, too, share your pain, cowman. Avril goes against everyone of my music tastes and beliefs and yet I also own both albums and love them.
Think there's a support group somewhere? Maybe we could start one... |
I think I liked 2 of her songs off her last album....the rest I just watch cause her face is there. She's not SUPER hot either....dunno why. So much for the whole "I won't show off my body either" comment...she keeps showin her booty.
Asta!! |
i have the same thing for linkin park, they go against every moral musical fiber in my body but i love them.

i dont mind her music at all, but it honestly isnt my cup of tea. i think i can stand watching her videos and shit because she's so fucking hot. i would bang her in a second if i got the chance...but alas those odds are pretty much shot. she's canadian or some shit, and i live all the way in arizona.

Sorry, somebody had to say it! Avril is alright. Can't say I'm a fan, but I sure do know every last word of her singles that have been released. One, they're played every hour on the hour. And two, the lyrics aren't mind bending. Simple and catchy. Damn simple and catchy! |
I hang my head in shame for the fact I've seen Avril live, but I can assure you it was for a good cause: last year Toronto held two major benenfits for SARS. One that included The Rolling Stones, and another that included a few other bands: The Tragically Hip, Diana Krall, The Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan and Avril Lavigne to name a few.
Now, I'm all for homegrown talent don't get me wrong. I'll give her credit for having someone notice her and try and make a media machine out of her. But, don't ever go to see her because you think she might be good to see live. Her singing voice (if you can call it that) *sucks*, and she cannot hold any note worth a damn. Her attitude sucks (did you ever see someone getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars who didn't at least *pretend* they were having a good time performing?) While some might think I am saying this because I'm bias, I'm actually saying this to everyone so that they don't get ripped off. She's like a bad movie: You'll find yourself wanting to walk out after 10 minutes. |
I prefer her over Britney, Cristina...etc. For the simple reason, and its sad to say, that she is a better influence on teenage girls than they are. Anyways at the same time she has no talent and behind the make up is not attractive. I'd say without the make up she's a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. She doesn't play guitar, she doesn't skate. She started off as a country singer and capitalized when it was "cool" to be punk although her music is pure pop and she "rebels" by doing everything she's told to do in order to make money.
Not my cup of tea... |
I can't recall ever hearing any of her songs, but she is mildly cute. And I did find it funny when I saw someone refer to her as "Avril Lasagne". :)
|
I have quite a bit of Avril's music myself even though it's not what I normally listen to. I think she has a good voice and has a great career ahead of her once she outgrows the bubblegum pop stage.
|
I'd do horrid/sexual things to her.
|
Look past the eye makeup and you will see that she is a rather boring looking, pretentious little spoiled pop-idol bitch. After that for some reason the ears start working better.
|
Who's Avril Lavigne?

Her lyrics fucking suck. Her voice is nothing special. Her music is typical unoriginal simplistic pop-punk fare.
There's not a single redeeming factor about her...being on radio. Problem is, I can say all these things about Linkin Park. But I occasionally enjoy Linkin Park and have never once considered Avril to be the least bit enjoyable. Go figure. |
Well..at least she writes/plays her own music and actually sings at her concerts, which puts her above 99 percent of all the other pop stars out there :p

I'm usually against teeny bop music, punk rock and mtv music, but for some reason, I like Avril as well. I bought her first album and liked it. I had contemplated buying her second album, but am waiting for some reason unknownst to me.
|
You wouldn't belive how extraordinarily indifferent I am toward her. I really don't give a shit either way.
|
She doesn't write her own music.
|
She writes her own music...just like Ashlee Simpson...
|
She has the lyrical abilities of a wet rat. Oh no, wait, she LOOKS like a wet rat.

She does not write or play her own music. There is a songwriting team called The Matrix that writes stuff for her as well as many, many others. She might come to them with an idea about a song, maybe even a few lyrics but they do the rest. She started playing guitar well after she became an idol. Ever seen early footage of her holding a guitar (like maybe last year)? It's painful to watch. The music on the recordings is all studio musicians. Her voice is blatantly processed and auto-tuned. Now let me say that I have absolutely no problem with any of the above things. Pop music is not "musician's" music. It exists solely to entertain and make money. Period. |
I saw Avril on either Leno or Letterman.... If she wasnt stoned then she is indeed a stupid little girl.... like totally, errr, ya no?
Doesnt mean I wouldnt curl her toes and make her call me diety though... Her music does have a certain attractiveness... but dont tell any of my friends that cause they would laugh and point.... |

cheap way to up a post count?
as a side note, im not really a fan of her music but i can watch her music videos on mute. i dont know why but i think shes really hot, maybe its the excessive eyeliner that sucks me in |
Ah, what the hell - the thread's up anyhow, so I'll get on the bandwagon. Nothing weird in enjoying Avril's music - it's produced by experts, people who create catchy tunes for a living. The difference is that you'll find more guitars in it, thus making it more acceptable for the rock public. As much as I hate the end product of the pop music factories, I always admired tunes, as they're both cacthy and well produced. It's all just dumbed down for the general public. But I digress...
|
The only thing I hate is when I see pictures of her out and about and you see some of the people that she's hanging out with. These are obviously people who wouldn't have anything to do with her if she wasn't famous. There's Avril with her sorta punkish look and she's hanging out with totally preppy girls who were probably cheerleaders in high school.
|
Aww...she's cute. I just did a GIS on her. You guys are too harsh. She kinda reminds me of Michelle Trachtenberg.
|
I like Avrils music mainly because its catchy, not cuz its like brilliant or anything. Its kinda wierd cuz i like Avril but I really hate Alanis Morsette and everyone tells me that there kind of similar, like vocally. O well, i never noticted it, and still dont make that connection mainly cuz i have Alanis morsette so much.
|
I'm not even a huge fan of Alanis, but I have to vehemently disagree here.
Alanis > Avril. I don't think it's even remotely close. There's real beauty in a select few songs of hers (particularly "Uninvited"). Avril has yet to produce anything other than dull, uninspired, unintelligent pop-punk. |
Im not comparing them as artist, just that they apparently have somewhat similar voices-ish. And its wierd cuz i like avril but dont like alanis. I dunno, maybe my friends are crazy to hear a little bit of alanis in avrils voice.

I 'm not a fan of Avril but to her credit, and I have seen her live, as well as on t.v (snl) and she has good pitch. Better than Hillary or Lindsey. Those two cannot sing in key longer than 2 bars.
As for writing songs, Avril does contribute to the process with the Matrix team. I've seen lots of generous people in the music industry, but not so generous to give writing credits to someone who hasn't written or contributed to the songs. Credits are called points. If Mutt Lange adds a line to a song I've written, he gets points for that. Points are usually decided as a percentage regarding the whole. In other words, one line will get him a writing credit but as the song sells he will receive less money in royalties since he was a minor contributor than I would. Avril works the same way with her partners and the points are discussed by their own agreements. |
personally if I had to choose a singer that I was somewhat embarresed to be a fan of, it would be feist...love her voice for some reason....
avril...meh mostly indifferent sounds like the same chord progressions with a different voice...nothing that interesting.. |
Her first album pissed me off (the singles that I heard anyway), but all of the singles from her second album are definitely respectable in my opinion. "Nobody's Home" is my favourite, and even better, I actually like her live versions (she did a live acoustic on her own of the aforementioned single on Much) much more than the super-produced record singles. On top of that, she's hot!
