Porcupine Tree
I discovered this band a while back, but I've just recently started to get into their stuff and I like it a lot, which is a big deal for me since I can be so picky with music sometimes. I know some of you are familiar with Porcupine Tree as well, as I've seen the name mentioned a couple times on random threads, but for those of you who aren't, I suggest you check them out.
Some songs to sample: Even Less Up the Downstair Last Chance to Evacuate (The guitar makes me feel like Robert Plant is going to start singing at any moment...) Lightbulb Sun Voyage 34 Gravity Eyelids Blackest Eyes Prodigal (GOD, this song sounds just like it could be Pink Floyd at some points, especially some of the vocals) So for those of you who have heard of PT, what do you think? |

Yep, these guys are very good - Generally a nice mix of everything
In Absentia and Stupid Dream are 2 extremely good albums. Also, Steve Wilson, the lead singer, has worked on the last couple of Opeth records which have been quite good as well, namely Damnation (which is a change of pace). |

I'm not very much into Opeth (the singing is... well, not quite what I like), but I've heard Damnation is their most accessable album (it's all acoustic I've heard, so perhaps this means more melodic singing, which would be nice). Should I check that out too? |

In Absentia is at our local mass produced cd store chain place. Older Albums are definitlely hard to come by, but most of the recent stuff shouldn't be too hard to come by. And yes, Damnation is all melodic, so that'd be good as well.
Although, as i always do, download the album first. If you like it, then go buy it, else just get rid of it or whatever |

Well I'll definitly be buying any Porcupine Tree cds I come across, but not so sure about Damnation. I'll have to obtain it first and give it a couple listens. |

I got turned onto PT becasue I'm a big Pink Floyd fan and was told they are similar. Well, I don't really see that, but I do like them. "Always Never" is a fantastic song in my opinion. And ads Sleepykjack said, In Absentia is probably their most "commercial" album and the one you are most likely to find in stores.
