Flo Mounier from Canadian death metallers Cryptopsy, if you're into P2P, download the drum solo from the live cd, the guy is the fastest drummer I've ever seen in action, and watching him do the drum solo is so much better than just hearing it, it's crazy. Martin Lopez of Opeth also is a fav. because of his amazing south american inspired style, but doing death metal, it's fuckin awesome.

heard a funny quip about Ringo, since a lot of you were talking about him. Someone once asked Paul McCartney if Ringo Starr was the greatest drummer in the world. Paul shrugged and said, "Ringo Starr wasn't even the beast drummer in the Beatles."

Don't get me wrong, the Beatles are the earth's greatest rock band, but Ringo wasn't all that hot as a drummer.

Kudos to the guy who brought up Phil Collins. The man is a truly amazing drummer!

Best Drummer? I cant name just 1, but Peart, Moon and Baker are my top 3.

Most underrated drummer is a toss up between Charlie Watts and Mitch Mitchell. Watts can literally keep perfect time, he IS the human metranome. And Mitchell was always in Jimi's shadow, listen to The Experience live at the monteray pop festival, Mitchell has some amazing fills during "Like a rolling stone", super, super fast stuff.

Dave Grohl kicks ass! Any post 1990 Nirvana drumming always sounded above par, and his work with QOTSA and his own Probot project are top notch. Dale Crover of the Melvins is good too. Also, you can't forget the drummers from those kickass old bands. Nick Mason and John Bonham come to mind.

keith moon changed my life. saw the kids are allright when i was 8 and knew exactly what i had to do.

in jazz, max roach my pick. all props to krupa and buddy, but chick webb deserves the real credit for laying the groundwork.

People seem to have overlooked Latina sensation Sheila E. of "Prince" fame.

and yes, Neil Pert rocks! His innovation, along with Geddy Lee, in bringing "odd" time meters to Rock music leaves others often in the dust.

Lest you all think I am too old, let's not forget Cindy Blackman, She's performed with a list of Jazz, Funk and Rock greats long as your arm, recently Lenny Kravitz...

Lastly, and by no means least, is Allan White, from "YES"

jimmy stewart was in fact the best drummer ever. it is a little known fact that he picked up drumming from the four dimensional being Harvey the Giant Rabbit, who was actually mistaken as imaginary, during the filming of the movie 'Harvey'. Harvey trained under Moses and Grakor the Destroyer, the latter of 'Impaled Northern Moon Forest' fame, and passed down the mythical tom-roll of hatred, death, bunnies, and sunflower seeds to jimmy stewart. Once he learned this, jimmy stewart was unstoppable and began his ethnic cleansing. first to be ravaged by his confused and misguided ethnic hatred were the mole people of moleopolis, followed by the rat people of ratopolis and the cat people of Chicago. only by the grace of god and a half eaten twinkie were captain obvious and his sidekick colonel cleavland steamer able to stop the now half-man, half-robot movie star bent on becoming the next fuhrer. it is a shame. he would have made a great madman drum-based malevolent dictator.

And then an obscure drummer most of you have probably never heard of:
Sami Kuoppamäki. He played in a Finnish legendary acid/proge band called Kingston Wall and has continued his career as one of the top percussionist in the finnish rock scene since then.

Peart. Technique, speed, precision. I can't think of anyone who can top that.

Moon and Bonham. Both lots of energy and power.


When discussing Peart, many bring up YYZ, but my favorite drum track by him is 2112. He has one section that sounds faster than a machine gun, it's just insane. This makes me wnat to que up Winamp and load 2112 intro, Four Sticks, and Won't get Fooled Again.

Finally, I'd like to mention a couple of bands on the opposite ends fo the spectrum - Nine Inch Nails and the Allman Brothers. Using two drummers at many times was a stroke of genius. I'm sure that other bands have done this on occasion, but they are the most visible to me. When you get a song where two percussionists are in sync and on their game, the precision sound is as sweet and delicate as any other.

can't take anything away from the classics, but i think zack young from the band artificial intelligence is the drummer of the future. he plays a cybernetic mix of live acoustic drums and trickers from 1 mixed kit. i've seen it live and its amazing. he's playing drum n' bass and jungle alongside a band. and his sense of timing is so good he's almost doing chord changes w/ the drums imo.
