LIFE WOULD BE SO SAD WITHOUT MUSIC DOWNLOADS

I will admit, that I often wonder how I ever got along without the music peer to peer download sites.
Nothing more theriputic than sipping my whiskey and downloading old favorite tunes from the net. In my darkest hours, these have pulled me through.
Anyone else feel that way?

kalashnikov 07-15-2004 07:27 PM

I love Limewire, for those times when you love that one song by some group, but you know that every other song of theirs is going to suck, and you don't want to dish out 18 bucks for a cd, or when you haven't yet actually heard any songs by a particular group, and want to find out what they are like. If I am totally impressed, I will buy their cd after that. Or it's great for the times when your friend goes "Hey, do you have x's song?" and you say "no, but I will in a few minutes!"

Dawson70 07-15-2004 07:31 PM

Amen.........one case....who's got more?????????

Dawson70 07-15-2004 07:39 PM

I say " FUCK THE RIAA". If it keeps me from going off the deep end, then I should be allowed to download what ever I need to keep me level. I'm sure they would see it differently if I was thier neighbor........he he he.

theusername 07-16-2004 12:07 PM

Agreed. The thing is, I use to not buy cd's because I never heard music i liked. Now I do buy cd's, about 10-15 a year and do download as well. If anything the RIAA has made money off of me because of file sharing.

The sad fact is that radio is dead. They simply don't play new music any more, its sad and pathetic. We all know the joke that MTV has turned into, so there really isnt an outlet to preview and hear decent music.

SinisterMotives 07-16-2004 12:25 PM

I survive exclusively by downloading old music from the 1940s all the way up to the 1990s. I download newer stuff occasionally, but I haven't really been inpressed with anything I've heard in the last couple of years. I like really obscure 70s and 80s rock and pop that most people have forgotten about. I don't see that it's hurting the music industry because most of what I download isn't even available on CD. Not to mention that I've bought hundreds of CDs over the years, some of them more than once because they got lost, stolen, or damaged. I certainly haven't gotten the "lifetime of listening enjoyment" promised on the cover out of every CD I've bought. So yeah, I feel justified in downloading music to recover my losses.

Beefimator 07-16-2004 01:19 PM

Okay, so since we are all in agreement that downloading is still all good, what do you use to download? I have been using KCeasy on and off.

SinisterMotives 07-16-2004 01:23 PM

I've been using WinMX for a couple of years. I've started augmenting that with SoulSeek lately. Between the two of them, I always get my file. :D

r3ptile 07-16-2004 05:44 PM

hooray for P2P!! kazaa lite k++ has completely revolutionalized the way i discover new music that i actually like, which i then eventually support in one way or another..

does anyone think maybe they're somehow keeping track of who's downloading copyrighted shit though, and someday they'll bust out and issue like millions of fines or something crazy like that? ...probably just a paranoid idea of mine, but i wouldn't put it past em.

flamingdog 07-17-2004 11:01 AM

I use eMule. I love being able to get hold of anything i want almost instantaneously.

Jesus Pimp 07-17-2004 02:59 PM

I use soulseek and Bit Torrent.

teethman 07-17-2004 06:02 PM

i agree. i discovered more music and actually bought more cds then i would have if file sharing never existed.

Mantus 07-17-2004 07:57 PM

I am the same as theusername. I buy more CD's now then I did before P2P.

FM radio may be dead but internet radio is getting very good.

matteo101 07-18-2004 03:28 PM

What has no spyware, or adware? I use pestpatrol, and it doesnt allow me to use limewire or kazaa, so I need some more options. Thanks

whocarz 07-19-2004 04:30 AM

Kazaa Lite K++ has no spyware, and it automatically gives you a rating of 1000, among some other neat features.

Mantus 07-19-2004 09:33 AM

BearShare is the best one in my opinion.

seretogis 07-19-2004 10:10 AM

Life would be much better without a capslock key.

sjsufer 07-20-2004 11:05 AM

i use kazaa ++ its good except now some songs have that stupid fucking buzz or beep in it now fucking greedy bastards....and oh yea i buy more cds now then ever they just don't understand we got something good and their jealous

Sargeman 07-22-2004 03:21 PM

I have to agree about bearshare being the best.

I also like the downloading of songs but now I do it legally. However back in my other days just the thought of paying more than $15 for a cd that has only one song that I want to hear was just ridiculous!

I did email the RIAA and told them how I felt about that but they never replied to me. Go figure.

todd 07-22-2004 03:37 PM

I have mixed feelings about music downloading. I'm guilty of it, I always have been. But there hasn't been a single song i've downloaded when the feeling of guilt hasn't passed through me. Even if it only lasts a minute or so, I still always feel guilty for 'stealing,' because thats exactly what it is. If it's a band I like, and I download a bunch of their stuff, I go out and buy the CD to support the band, even if I already have most of the songs on it.

If P2P were to stop, I'd definitly sign up for iTunes or something long before I'd go back to buying CDs.

I buy/download my music from AllOfMp3.com. They have a huge selection, and fast lines (at least in Europe - they're russian).

Depending on the bitrate (yes, you select the desired compression format and bitrate) a song usually costs 0.08$, an 0.6$-1$ pr album.

According to their site it's perfectly legal, and the've been selling music since 2001.

Actually, I am quite satisfied WITHOUT downloading any music.

I think you all could be too if you simply didnt do it for a while. :)

braindamage351 07-23-2004 09:45 PM

If it wasn't for music downloads I never would have found good music, and I'd never have spent any money on CDs.
