what cd/album on a desert island
i have been asking this question for over twenty years. i ask it mostly when the conversation between myself and one other is at a lull. i have found a few truisms:
-most men answer this question right off the bat and never change. -most women do not answer the question without prodding and once they do, they want to change it. -most men will ask me what my choice is -most women do not give the reach around my cd: quadrophenia-the who |
I'd bring "American Life" by Madonna (so that I'd feel no guilt whatsoever when I burned it for warmth ;) )
|
Can't I bring my iPod instead?
|
i have gotten the ipod reply, but realize that i really have been asking this question for over twenty years and i am forcing one choice of album or cd
|
Then I would pick Europe '72 by the Grateful Dead. At least it has a fabulous array of tunes.
I would, however, go completely insane if I only had a few tunes at my disposal. |
Suffer by Bad Religion
it would just put me in the mind set that im stuck in a tropical paradisee enjoying myself ( i hope) while millions of other people are stuck in dead end jobs working till their 70 |
Allman Brothers Fillmore East
|
Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruciton
I really like a broad mix of musical genres, but I think this disc would last me the longest. Im not sure on the release date, but I can remember listening to it when I was 5 or 6, on my big brothers ghetto blaster haha. |
Hm..
I would go with Appetite for Destruction or Iron Maiden - Live after Death. Or maybe some Dead Kennedys. |
Glassjaw - Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About Silence
OR Aphex Twin - Drukqs OR Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West OR Blood Brothers - Burn, Piano Island, Burn I can't pick just one. |
Hrm, probably Stand by your van : Sublime live
Thats the one album ive listened to consistantly for many years now Undertow : Tool would be a close 2nd :) |
I've listened to Cocteau Twins' Heaven or Las Vegas so many times that I've worn out several copies, and I haven't tired of it. So that's probably the one album I'd take with me.
|
Could we take a box set? :D
|
In Flames - Reroute To Remain
I listen to that album so much and it makes me happy. So when I am sad and depressed about being on a deserted island I can just pop that in. :) |

yes, you can take a box set, however, a box set sort of dilutes your opinion. the same thing for greatest hits. my question i ask is one to sort of reveal something of the person. for instance the choice of ziggy stardust vs. changesonebowie or, scary monsters, says something about the way person who picks ziggy has experienced or remembers that particular album.
|
Well, with that in mind, I'll be taking:
"Transmissions From The Satellite Heart" by The Flaming Lips I wouldn't want to water down a first impression. ;) |
Rush-2112 (kind of an obvious choice for me...lol)
|
either that or "Oh my Gawd!"
|
London Calling - The Clash
Just to help prove your theory, I knew that before I even read your text, the subject line alone brought that to mind. |
Tenacious D - Self Titled
Tunes to rock your ass off and shit to make you laugh. |

Talk Talk "Spirit of Eden"
( Maybe Talk Talk "Laughing Stock ) I simply cant decide ....dang. :) |

Bill Evans - Sunday At The Village Vanguard - Music for all moments.
|
Bruce Springsteen - The River
|
I'd want to have with me an instructional CD called "How to Build a Boat."
