Rock Group Creed announce split

Grammy-winning rock group Creed have announced they have split, with three members already forming another band, minus singer Scott Stapp.
The group, known for their Christian-inspired songs, called it a day after eight years.

Drummer Scott Phillips said that while no-one was to blame for the split "it just stopped being fun".

Creed's three albums, including Human Clay, sold a combined 24 million copies in the US.

The band won rock artist of the year at the Billboard Music Awards in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Phillips, guitarist Mark Tremonti and former Creed bassist Brian Marshall have already formed a band called Alter Bridge, with an album due out in August.

"We don't want to make it seem like it's just Creed with a different singer," said Phillips.

Although often described as a Christian band, Creed themselves always maintained they were not because they did not want to push their own religious beliefs on others.

'Vibe change'

Tremonti recently explained that his long friendship with Stapp had soured in recent years, which led to tensions in the band.

Creed had taken a year off from recording and touring, and Phillips said that when the time came to reconvene "the vibe just wasn't the same".

In 2003, four fans filed a lawsuit against the group following a Chicago concert, claiming singer Stapp was "intoxicated".

The previous year the band had to scrap a tour when Stapp was injured in a car crash.

Stapp has already recorded a solo track which will be featured on an album of music inspired by the movie The Passion of the Christ.
let the celebrations commence!

Nice headline, Phred! My favorite part of the article was "Phillips, guitarist Mark Tremonti and former Creed bassist Brian Marshall have already formed a band called Alter Bridge".

The title made me laugh. Yay. Good news.

Hahaha, yeah.

Fine by me if they split, I wont be missing them.

KWSN 06-06-2004 03:19 PM

About fucking time...

brandon11983 06-06-2004 09:35 PM

the look on phred's face is so befitting to this joyous occasion.

SixEdxMia 06-06-2004 09:43 PM

Hallelujah.

monkeydriven 06-07-2004 11:35 AM

Certainly good news!

But....be careful what you wish for...now we'll have 'The Scott Stapp Band" as well as the other two morons joining up with someone ala Velvet Revolver....

As I always said about N Sync and Backstreet...let em stay together, else we'll have 5x the amount of bad music when they all go solo...

Yikes! Yeah this is good news. Although Creed has put out some decent music that my friends and I make fun of on a daily basis.

bparker805 06-07-2004 11:52 AM

This was the best news I heard all weekend! Now if you will excuse me I am going to go celebrate by running through the streets naked.

perripken 06-07-2004 12:08 PM

Let me be the first to be disappointed. I liked Creed, but I guess different opinions make the world go 'round. I also happen to like Velvet Revolver. I always said that Guns n Roses would be a better band with a real singer!

Panopticon 06-07-2004 06:20 PM

I thought Creed was awful...I'm glad they broke up. Every song sounded the same.

Let's hope that dickhead Stapp doesn't try to release a solo album or anything.

fnaqzna 06-07-2004 08:15 PM

With luck this is just the beginning of a trend where all of the Matchbox Twenty clones fade back into the woodwork.

Scipio 06-08-2004 05:28 AM

Mabye they're like starfish. You cut them up, but all it does is make them multiply.

The_wall 06-08-2004 08:18 AM

HURRAY! Now we just need Nickelback and Stained to break up.

Charlatan 06-08-2004 10:40 AM

who is creed?

DownwardSpiral 06-08-2004 11:44 AM

I got a good laugh out of hearing Creed broke up. And I got a good laugh out of the other band members already starting another band. Now all we need is a few of these other bands to break up and the world will be a better place haha.

jbuffett 06-09-2004 12:47 AM

Best thread title in music, ever.

kurtisj 06-10-2004 11:44 AM

excellent.

Polyphobic 06-10-2004 11:55 AM

The best news I've heard in a long time.

What's with his head? It looks swollen. Maybe it's allergic to his kneck. :)

kutulu 06-11-2004 12:14 PM

Although I'd like to be more cool and say I don't give a fuck, this makes be all giddy inside. I hated those fucktards.

ibis 06-11-2004 12:15 PM

THat's the funniest title I've seen in quite a while!

Nickelback, yes, but Staind?

Sure, they're from the same generation of music, but the man's lyrics are really something that a lot of kids could identify with.. more so than Creed/Nickelback. For example, check out the lyrics to Fade: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/staind/fade.html. They aren't some band out to make a quick buck or one that's driven by ego like Creed.

Nickelback... eh, I just don't like 'em. I refer to them as "cock rock" or the same generic bland music that has been made time and time again.

cameroncrazy822 06-11-2004 06:01 PM

What exactly was the beef between him and Fred Durst? I know it's old news but I would really appreciate a bried nutshell synopsis of the dispute. Thanks

Stompy 06-11-2004 07:24 PM

Clash of egos.

It all started, if I'm not mistaken, at a concert where LB and Creed were playing. I'm not sure who was to perform last, but the one who WASN'T performing last got all pissed off.

I think Creed wanted to perform last but couldn't, so Fred Durst went out in front of the audience and was talking shit, and of all things, made fun of his ego.

Fred's one to talk, huh?

Fred later went on TRL and slammed Stapp. Stapp retorted and called him an egomaniac, etc etc..

Basically just a battle of egotistical overpaid moron lead singers of crappy bands.

Speed_Gibson 06-11-2004 10:50 PM

Creed is decent and something that I will listen to on the radio, but I never got into them that much or cared either way for them.

Thanks much. I guess it was inevitable to be an ego battle between two overpaid overrated artists.... Just my opinion.

frankx 06-12-2004 08:31 AM

Very glad this band has broken up. I honestly cannot fathom the popularity of mundane groups like this. My only fear is that the individual members, in particular the obnoxious lead singer, will find other ways to shove bad, bad music off on the public.

kutulu 06-14-2004 10:17 AM

As much as I hated Creed, I would have loved to see Stapp kick Durst's ass.

I really enjoy listening to Staind's music. On some of the songs I can really relate with the lyrics. I don't really think Nickelback is too bad either.

Creed sucked though. Won't be missing them.

Funny he should say that cause thats exactly what the band sounds like. Granted Tremonti added a few new speedy little metal guitar tricks which are pretty tired now anyways...since his are just out of place and over done. I saw the video for the band. I own 2 Creed Cd's. I didn't mind Scott that much...thought he had a great voice....this new guy is pretty good too but he's not as good as Stapp was....so don't think yer gonna like Alter Bridge any better cause it's just the same band with a different singer.

Asta!!

miggity99 08-03-2004 07:48 AM

Alter Bridge is exactly the same as Creed, just a different lead singer. There's nothing different I can tell other than the guys voice.

And for some other bad news, Stapp is working on a solo project.

stonegrody 08-03-2004 08:13 AM

It's like stomping out a flaming bag of poo. You fix one problem only to create a much bigger one.

ForwardtoDeath 08-03-2004 10:49 AM

yes! now the radio will not be flooded with terrible pop-rock music. Oh wait, it still will, but at least no more creed.

bltzkriegmcanon 08-03-2004 10:52 AM

Nah, the radio will still play shittons of Creed, but there just won't be "new" Creed.
