What is your favorite "under the radar" band and why?

Clutch would be mine. Not a total unknown band, but not well known outside of certain circles. A buddy turned me on to them a few years ago and I've been a huge fan ever since. They're an amazing bunch of musicans and I've loved everything they put out. I guess you could classify them as a metal band, but that would be a very vauge description of them. Heavy is more accurate. They draw influences from so many areas and have very interesting lyrics to say the least. Each album has a different style without deviating from their original sound. If you ever see a Clutch album, pick it up and check em out!

Monster Magnet. The guys are incredible and Dave Wyndorf is a musical genius. They have a sound thats all their own, hard rock, grunge distortion without the oh life sucks lyrics.

Clutch is awesome. They were quite possibly my favorite band for awhile in college.

Monster Magnet has had a couple of hits, I wouldn't call them under the radar (Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Spacelord). Although, people have kinda forgotten their awesomeness.

Hmm... my favorite under the radar band is probably We are Scientists, an indie rock/punk/something else kinda band. They sound better live than most anybody I've ever seen and it's usually on crappy equipment too.
