I'll give you a full report SiN :D
--jaded |
There's a song he plays live that won't be on With Teeth called "Home", which is pretty damn good.
On the last update to NIN.com, he said there won't be as many remix CDs this time around and that he's planning a follow up album in a "timely fashion"... in other words, there won't be as long of a wait as there was from The Fragile to present day. |
theres no such thing as timely fashion in the world of Trent Reznor
|
OK, here's a late report from the London, Astoria, March 31st show.
Wow, is all I can say. The show was, as expected, awesome. It had a really old-school feel if you compare it to the "And all that could have been" dvd. Not much fancy lightning, effects or a huge stage to run around on. It was simply just a fat punch in the face. Brilliant. The setlist for the show looked like this: The Frail The Wretched You Know What You Are? March of the Pigs The Line Begins To Blur Piggy Terrible Lie Burn Closer Reptile The Big Comedown Gave Up The Day The Whole World Went Away Suck Even Deeper Wish Hurt The Hand That Feeds Starfuckers Inc. Head Like A Hole So just 3 new songs (but I guess they played more new material the previous night) but that didn't bother me at all since I've never seen NIN live before. The opener Frail/Wretched gave me goosebumps. The new guitarist Aaron North is fucking money. He has an amazing stage prescence and steals the spotlight from Trent on quite a few occasions. The new material works really well live. "Know what you are?" is awesome, very fast and a killer chorus. "The line begins to blur" is heavy and distorted and like "Know what you are" contains a chorus to die for. My second favorite moment (Frail/Wretched being #1) was when they played "The big comedown". It is one of my favorite NIN tracks and I didn't think it could work live, but man was I wrong. Aaron destroyed his guitar playing it. I spent a fortune on tickets for this show and I can happily say I would pay double for the same experience. If you're not a huge fan of NIN but a fan of music and live shows make sure you catch them touring this year. It's worth every cent. I promise. --jaded |
The actual version of "Home" is now at alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd.
It came on the limited edition 7" vinyl so.. you won't be seeing it anywhere else anytime soon. I also believe it's an extra track on the Japenese version of With Teeth. |
Stompy - I just downloaded it from an ftp, it's The Hand That Feeds Vinyl, with home as the 2nd track.

@ Jaded - Thank you very muchfor the report, sounds fucking awesome! |

alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd  |
I gotta say my impression after one listen is that it's pretty damn good.
|
Funny you should say that, Jesus Pimp said the exact opposite. I personally, am going to wait for the album release.
|
I'm going with brandon on this one. I've listened to 3 leaked tracks and really liked them but I'll wait for release to hear the rest. I've also heard "You know what you are?" live and really liked it as well. Only a few weeks away now!

I'll definitely be picking the official release when it comes out, but I gotta say the leaked tracks are pretty high quality. Heres the listing:
All the Love in the World You Know what you are The Collector The Hand that Feeds Love is not Enough Every day is Exactly the Same With Teeth Only Getting Smaller Sunspots The Line Begins to Blur Beside you in time Right where it belongs This might change but I kind of doubt it this close to release. |
I feel like you guys are being too easy on this. From what I've heard so far, this is nowhere near what I've come to expect from NIN.
When it comes to industrial music, I could give a shit about melody. Melody makes me lose focus on the music. This shit SHOULD be an experience that makes you want to disect every little element in the sound. *pops in his deluxe edition of The Downward Spiral* |
I've listened to the leak and though I don't think ti's up there with Fragile and Downward Spiral I still quite like it... it grows on ya. It isn't industrial, it isn't very electronic... it's more alternative rock.
I didn't want this as the new NiN album BUT I still like it and bet if I give it a few more spins on the iPod I'll begin to love it. All the same, come OFFICIAL release date I'll be picking up my legit copy. |
The new tracks sound.... well they sound "accessable". I dont know if Trent is intentionally dumbing down his work (I find that unlikely) or if he just felt like it was time for some simple, neat & tidy tracks, but I do agree with Halx - it doesnt hold a candle to the previous records. Doesn't even hold a dying ember, actually. Stylistically, it's a throwback to Pretty Hate Machine (complete with decisively average lyrics).
Pretty Hate Machine still kicked ass tho, and this record will too. It just won't be as intricately detailled as The Downward Spiral, or The Fragile. And for the record, Leaving Hope is still the most beautiful song ever. |
I for one am glad Mr. Reznor has again found his teeth, the Fragile was a bit precious and relatively hookless imho.
Only is a definite return to the PHM era but with much better lyrics, how he makes that timing work, much less danceable, is beyond me. The last track Right where it belongs is such a tender fuck you to all the moms and squares who "just like Hurt." The lyrics are a new frontier of bleakness, the music beautiful. Candy-coated cyanide. Somehow the crowd roar that fades in is distinctly inorganic, just another type of distortion. Every NIN fan has their favorite previous album. I'm glad he's not trying to recreate just one sound from his past. Might backfire and alienate everyone, but I suspect this album will be better received than the Fragile. |
Do you have a Mac? Do you have GarageBand 2 on your Mac?
This article at MacWorld points to a free download from NIN of "The Hand That Feeds" in GarageBand format, go ahead and start your remixes! I've never even started my copy of GarageBand. I think I will now, just to see what this is like. |
upon further review.. I think he's being about as progressive as polka. I wanna hear shit I've never heard before.

For those who haven't downloaded the leaked tracks you can listen to "Every day is exactly the same" from bestbuy.com
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....cat58700050008 If you get a cookies must be enabled error, just browse bestbuy.com for a bit, then copy and paste the url from the same window and refresh if needed. Wow, that's my favorite track that I've heard off the new album by a mile. --jaded |
