Tool working on next album!

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/148...headlines=true

Apparently they have 10-12 songs in the works, but won't start completing until Maynard is done with A Perfect Circle touring.

New release slated for early 2005!

As a big Mike Patton fan, it's also interesting how they mention him (along with Dave Lombardo) as a heavy influence. It was a very nice surprise when Tool chose Fantomas to open for them during the first leg of the tour and Tomahawk for the second leg. Tool AND Mike Patton in one night... overload.

They didn't just open, too, that was the amazing thing. Each band was a part of each other's set for a few songs here and there... like members of Tool would come out during Tomahawk and play along with them, and Patton & Co. would come out during Tool's set and play along.

I can't wait to see/hear what the next release will be like. The leap from Undertow to Aenima was huge, very different, and amazing, just like the leap from Aenima to Lateralus. I imagine the next leap will be just as good. Plus, they always put some kick ass artwork in their CDs.

I remember reading some time ago that Maynard wanted to do a story/theme album ala Pink Floyd's The Wall for a future Tool album.

If anyone can pull that off it's Tool.

DVD this summer?!?! Details!! Details!!

Edit: never mind, read the artical :P

In addition to rehearsing new songs from noon to 4 p.m. every day, Tool-minus-Maynard have also been putting together a DVD of footage from the Lateralus tour, which they plan to release this summer.
Anybody who knows if the DVD is released?

Found this on MTV.com (?) dated 11.12.2004.

Quote:
...Despite their #2 debut on the albums chart with eMOTIVe, Maynard James Keenan has put A Perfect Circle on the shelf for the time being. He's currently in the studio with his Tool bandmates working on the band's fourth album, the follow-up to 2001's Lateralus. The LP is expected to drop next year. ...

About seeing Tool live: I saw them at Roskilde Festival in Danemark in 2001. It was the first time I heard them at all and I was completly blown away! The concert was just so right with the music. I've been a huge Tool fan since then. Hope they will come to Sweden or in the vicinity soon...

I love tool and APC but I don't see this album dropping before mid-summer. I know what they stated but tool likes to take a long time in making records and I'm okay with that. As for the "huge leap from cd to cd" comment from above I think if you go back and listen to the end of aenima you see that third eye is really a shift in the direction of how the lateralus disc is, they do a good job of previewing their next sound for you. I'd expect a more ambient and atmospheric rock a-la The Gathering's last venture and something towards what Opeth has been doing for a long time.

The person who said "if anyone can pull off [a story type album like pink floyd's the wall] it would be tool" would be wise to check out opeth's - My arms your hearse and The Mars Volta's - Deloused in the Comatorium they're both stories told throughout the album and are both phenomenol discs.

I would also recommend Still Life from Opeth, which is a concept album along a similar vein of My Arms, Your Hearse.

I've seen Tool 4 times live, and the best show had to be the one where Tricky opened for them, and Tricky came out during Triad and beat the shit out of some drums with Danny. It was amazing.

It's really funny that this news came out, because I was just thinking earlier about how they're about due for a new one, since it's going on 4 years now.

Also, a good band that can tell a story throughout a cd is Dredg. Very cool, and quite unique.

I've only seen them twice, but I got to see them with Tricky in Kansas City. I honestly cant remember if he came out while Tool was playing, because so much was going on on-stage, and above the stage (people hanging from ropes doing some kind of acrobatic-type dancing). As for the rest of the show, it was honestly the best concert, both visually and aurally, that I've ever attended.

Anyway, this is definitely a CD I'll be buying and listening to non-stop whenever it actually gets released. Same goes for the DVD.

Have You heard Mastodon - Leviathan? The LP is based on the book Moby Dick. I think they pulled it off quite nicely.

Last I heard was that the music tracks were already done and they're waiting for Maynard to lay down the vocals so I'd imagine release isn't too far away. I've never seen Tool live but I did see APC. If that concert was any indication of how good Tool will be live I will wet my pants.

I've seen them 3 times, and each time was my favorite. I was going to see them play on Sept 11, 2001, but the show was postponed due to the terrorist attacks. When they played 2 days later, holy shit, it couldn't be any more intense. The attacks were on everyone's mind, and with Tool playing... it was an intense evening on so many levels.

*eidt* oh, I as well am going to buy this the day it comes out. Of course.

It seems like Maynard is using A Perfect Circle for his "mellow" (for lack of a better word) side, and using Tool for his kick ass side. Not downplaying any of the other members of either band, they are all awesome. But when Tool comes out, I know I need to be especially prepared to have my ass kicked.

Mellow is such a crappy word to describe A Perfect Circle... can anyone else put into words how I'm trying to describe the difference in each band's sound?

the Tool album should be out sometime this year.

i've actually had the privilege of hearing some of the masters of the new stuff, instrumental, (i'm a distributor for a mini-major record label that produces Danny Carey's side projects) and it sounds amazing.

There was an image made by Adam Jones that alluded to a 1/17/06 release date, which is on a Tuesday and coincidentally is a special date in the story of Rennes-le-Chateau (the band members are supposedly into it all).

I'm thinkin it's not likely because it's 2 months away, and generally once an album is done, there's generally a 4 month period before it actually hits shelves..

3 weeks away and no usenet leak! (I assume all torrents/p2p are fake anyhow)

I plan on buying it anyway but... you know, the suspense factor. I really can't help myself.

New single, Vicarious, comes out next week! Anyone happen to hear it yet?
