Lyrical Pursuit
I'm going to steal a different type of trivia game from a local radio station. The object is to write two lines of lyrics from a well known song, nothing too obscure please. If someone gets it right, they do the next song. This is edited because of Saut's post below: Thou shalt not Google! Why take the fun out of the game. The same rules should apply as in the Music trivia thread. 24 hours should be the limit, then whoever stumped the panel should post another set of lyrics, hopefully a little easier!
Here are my two lines: the museum director's with their high shaking heads they kick white shadows until they play dead |
The Cars - Dangerous Type
Next: The wounded man looks up through his one dyin' eye Says, "Wha'd you bring him in here for? He ain't the guy!" |
Bob Dylan - Hurricane
You're asking me will my love grow? I don't know, I don't know |
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
City girls just seem to find out early, how to open doors with just a smile. |
Lyin' Eyes - The Eagles
"one punch, that's all it took (oooh) he hit me in my ribs and my insides shook! now how can I say this and be a little discreet, let's just say, that my bowels released" |
Google has really taken the fun out of these kind of games.

I have a form of Google running inside my head. I have a jukebox that just plays songs all day. Some I like, some I don't.
I hear part of a song and then it is stuck in my head the rest of the day. I had the Eagles through my head the day I put in the lyrics above. Google, I don't need no stinkin Google. I can name just about any classic rock song from the lyrics. Now the funny part, I have no friggin idea what song Mephex posted. |
Well, that's the idea. Idn'it ?
If you don't know, use Google. Just have fun with it. If you're going to use Google every time, I don't see how that would be any fun for you, or anyone else ;) |
Well Mephex.. looks like you have a stumper, now how about some new lyrics. By the way, love your avatar, who is she?
|
<- Erica Campbell
"one punch, that's all it took (oooh) he hit me in my ribs and my insides shook! now how can I say this and be a little discreet, let's just say, that my bowels released" DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - And in this corner. Okay okay, I'll try to use stuff from before 1980. Lemme know if it's too tough, but I can't make'em easy either  "So where were the Spiders While the flies tried to break our balls" |
Ziggy Stardust- David Bowie
Ok- here goes: No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle No flowers no wedding dress |
Hint:
Title song of album by this New Jersey native |
Well looks like a stumper, so I'll do an easier one!
Now you're climbin' to the top of the company ladder Hope it doesn't take too long |
Boston: Piece of Mind
next: The measure of the depth can be deceiving. The bottom has a rocky reputation |
Man... I know this! I just can't put the tune to it!
|
You'll kill yourself when you hear it, perripken.
It's Joe Walsh's "The Confessor" Took me awhile too, I could hear it in my head, but couldn't place it. Here's one you should get. "Left alone with big fat Fanny She was such a naughty nanny |
Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
That was an easy one. How bout this one You're no Jesus Yeah, you're no fucking Elvis |
Doooooh, where's the gun? I love that tune, too!

Man.... I can't believe the God of Thunder made such a mistake!....
Hangs his head in shame for the GOT. |
I hang my head in shame for myself.
I can't believe I made that blunder either. The only thing I have to say for myself is that they are both Harrison tunes. And that is the weakest excuse there is, but it is the only one I have. I sentence myself to 2 hours of polka. aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Hey, at least I got the Joe Walsh one right |
Polka! No..... don't do it GOT! DON'T DO IT!
|
The last one was Incubus - Megalomaniac
next: she said i'll throw myself away they're just photos after all |
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow
Yesterday seems as though it never existed Death Greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye |
Fade to Black - Metallica
All this machinery Making modern music Can still be open-hearted.... |
Spirit of Radio, Rush
Well I stand up next to a mountain Chop it down with the edge of my hand |
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
See a lot up there but don't be scared Who needs action when you got words? |
You have a stumper KWSN, need some new lyrics and the answer to this one.
|
I guess I'll try to kick start this thing again. People, please check back from time to time if you have a question on the board!
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on He took a face from the ancient gallery |
I don't know if it's lack of interest because of the NFL Draft, or what. I'm going to give the answer because I won't be around tomorrow. Someone else will have to pick this thing up. It was The End, the Doors.
|
now dang it perripken, I knew that one...
anyway, here's a new couplet: I got a right to go to work, but they shut it down. I got a right to go to work, but there's no work here to be found. |
don't know sion's, but mine was Meat Puppets (or Nirvana covering Meat Puppets) - Plateau
|

Now, we need the answer to yours and a new one. It's been over 24 hours. |
I guess I'll try to kickstart this thing again.... I guess I'm not getting as much interest as the music trivia thread.
Sion.... you had a stumper, but you didn't check back. I ended up googling for the answer. You didn't quite have the lyrics correct anyway. They're supposed to be: I used to have a job, but they shut it down. I got a right to go to work, but there's no work here to be found. Dire Straights- "Telegraph Road" Anyways, here are my new lyrics: Greedy little people in a sea of distress Keep your more to receive your less |
give it away, chili peppers
dear diary, tonight will be our last my hands are itching for razors |
ok, so it was the black dahlia murder, closed casket requiem, someone else go
|
Ok, I'll give it a go.
We tried to wash our hands of all of this We never talk of our lack in relationships |
Damn.... I know these lyrics..... just can't put the tune to it.....
argggghhhhhh.....!!!!!!!! |
And how we're guilt-sticken, sobbing...
The Verve Pipe - The Freshmen :) Next: Time to take her home Her dizzy head is conscience laden Time to take a ride It leaves today, no conversation |
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
The gun barrel is in my mouth! |

stone temple pilots, im not going to cheat and look up the song title, i dont know it
|
Ah! You've got the band right. :)
|
interstate lovesong, or is that naother one?
|
technically foolthemall, I would say this is a stumper since noahfor didn't give the name of the song, but it's up to you whether or not you want to give new lyrics or have noahfor give them.
|
It's "Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots.
She feels like kicking out all the windows and setting fire to this life She would change everything about her using colors bold and bright |
Nobody got it Derwood, New lyrics please.
|
It was "Grey Street" by Dave Matthews Band.
New lyrics: You know that I've seen Too many romantic dreams Up in lights falling off the silver screen |
"Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue
here goes nothin'... What I really wanna say is there's just one way back And I'll make it but my soul will have to wait |
I give up on this thread.... seems to be a total lack of interest!
|
I don't think it's a lack of interest. I just think it's too tough.
|
Yeah, we have to keep these songs fairly mainstream. If people keep putting up lyrics by Mars Volta and Opeth, we won't get anywhere.
|
The problem is it's hard to recognize lyrics if you don't really really know them. Like this last one was santaria by sublime, and I have read the lyrics on occasion, but I couldn't recognize them when they were on here. Next person go. It was a stumper.
|
Mama, just killed a man.
Put my gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, Now he's dead. |
bohemian rhapsody- queen?
|
I'll get in on this one.
I need an easy friend I do... with an ear to lend I do... think you fit this shoe I do... but you have a clue |
Nirvana - About a girl
|
Here's one:
Generals gathered in their masses just like witches at black masses --jaded |
Dude! Sabbath! War Pigs! Sweet!
You enter the room with great caution though no one in the hall is even watching They are transfixed, they're forgetting just to breathe.... |
OOH OOH OOH!!!
It's "Symphony in C" by Cake...=) They likened him to all the stories he told Of past battles won and lost and legends of old A seasoned veteran in his own time |
Since no one has posted an answer, I'll put up some new lyrics.
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tommy saying he was in love He said don't worry 'bout a thing baby girl I'm the man you've been dreaming of |
Everlast "What It's Like"
Head down, arms out Nailed to the cross of doubt Blood runs like rain Drowning for this world in vain Crown of black thorns Human skin ripped and torn Where is your savior now? |
Fear Factory - Pisschrist
new lyric: A liquid embrace to chase the day away Sedate numb, deaf and dumb Stumbling into solitude A clouded judgement day is fueled Take me under your black wings Mark my words and remember me |
that kinda sounds like something from Dream Theater, but thats just a guess and is probably wrong.
|
It's Lamb of God - 11th Hour
New one: I backed my car into a cop car the other day Well he just drove off, sometimes life's OK |
I'm looking California, but feeling Minnesota

Thank You, Led Zeppelin next up: Every day when I get home from work, I feel so frustrated, the boss is a jerk. And I get my sticks and go out to the shed And I pound on the drum like it was the bosses head. |
Easy also.... "Bang the drum all day" Todd Rundgren
I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line, I used to think that everything was fine |
The answer is Crystal Ball by Styx.
Here's one that I know a certain someone should get right away: *winks at God of Thunder* Haha, the cheapest stuff is all I need To get me back on my feet again |
Kiss.Cold Gin.
You wired me awake and hit me with a hand of broken nails You tied my lead and pulled my chain and watched my blood begin to boil. |
Damn, someone beat me to it
No Idea what yours is SixEdxMia |
rusty cage - soundgarden ( the johnny cash vesion rocks)
"the confusion sets in before the doctor can even close the door" |
Live lightning crashes. and no.... just Johnny cash. : )
You've been so long Your blind eyes are gone Your old bones are on their own So take off your coat Put a song in your throat Let the dead-beats pound all around |
Bump
No one knows the last set of lyrics? |
Looks like they're a stumper.
We need an answer and a new set SixEdxMia |
I guess I'll attempt to bump this thing up again...
I'm going to put more than a few lines in to make this one easier I hope! "Today I made and appearance downtown I am an expert witness, because I say I am And I said, 'Gentleman....and I use that word loosely...I will testify for you I'm a gun for hire, I'm a saint, I'm a liar Because there are no facts, no truth, just data to be manipulated I can get you any result you like....what's it worth to ya? Because there is no wrong, there is no right And I sleep very well at night No shame, no solution No remorse, no retribution Just people selling t-shirts just opportunity t participate in this pathetic little circus And winning, winning, winning' " |
Ok, either nobody cares or I thought more people listened to this artist than really do. Big hint:
Don Henley |
Garden of allah.
This should be easy: She’s the kind of girl you dream of Dream of keeping hold of You’d better forget it You’ll never get it She will play around and leave you Leave you and deceive you Better forget it Oh you’ll regret it |
Easy Lover.
Say to me where have you been Finally through the roof And how does lemur skin reflect the sea |

actually, this is a stumper by now. Monkeydriven should give the answer and new lyrics.
|
Ok, let me try to jump start this thing again!
This ringing in my head Is this a cure or is this a disease? |
Show me how to live... Audioslave (excellent song)
I like the all white high top strap with the gum bottom (Big boy) theres somthin bout dem that's dirty why I got em (Big boy) I leave um strapped and laced and come up out um (Big Boy) the last person who touched 'em I benn shot 'em, (big boy) |
I'm guessing something by Big Boi from Oukast, but I don't know a title.
|
You are on the right track. Hint...Rap song
|
I can't believe know one, knows the last set of lyrics. Here are some hints. He is from St. Lous and he sings with his posse on this song, they are known as the lunatics.
|
Ok, so it's some crappy Nelly song. Can we move on?
