Guitar Players?

Are there any guitar players on this forum? Perhaps we should discuss hot riffs or something.

Booray 03-27-2004 01:35 PM

I've got the opening bars of Smoke on the Water nailed down :)

Derwood 03-27-2004 07:41 PM

I've been playing for 11 years, but am really still an "amateur". I never get to play with other people, so knowing 1000's of songs isn't of much use

BoomTruck 03-27-2004 09:16 PM

I have a bass. I can't play it to save myself.

kl0pper 03-28-2004 03:13 AM

ive been playing for little over a year, for probably 3 - 5 hours a day...
fell in love with it
besides my own songs i like to play sabbath, melvins, sonic youth, kyuss/queens of the stone age, butthole surfers and pink floyd songs...

zer010gic 03-28-2004 07:21 AM

I play in fact I found this thread looking for info on a purchase of my next guitar :-)

woolyshambler 03-28-2004 09:16 AM

kl0pper: Kyuss is a seriously hot band. If you haveb't already, you should hear their cover of "Into The Void" by Black Sabbath, the riff just kicks my ass all day.

zer010gic: What kind of guitar are you looking at getting? What do you have now?

they do it better than sabbath imo

jvwgtr 03-29-2004 02:16 PM

Yep, I've been playing for 13 years now, but still suck.
But I keep buying more instruments & gear in hopes that I'll play better. ;)

Derwood 03-29-2004 02:19 PM

I've been thinking of selling my electric guitar and getting an acoustic. We'll see. It would be said to see her go.

CinnamonGirl 03-29-2004 02:57 PM

I used to play a little...I didn't really work at it, though, so all I really knew were a few chords and the first part of "Fur Elise."

My father-in-law said he'd give me his old acoustic, though, so I'm going to start practicing again :D

evilbeefchan 03-29-2004 10:10 PM

Been playing for about 4 years now. Not very good, but good enough to impress random people with songs by Metallica, Weezer, J.E.W, and the beginning riffs to "Stairway to Heaven" and "Tears in Heaven." I learned alot of songs in high school, but forgot to right them down so I never practiced them again. =(

Derwood: I'm pretty sure you can find alot of cheap acoustic guitars out there. Personally, I like having both electric and acoustic guitars. There's nothing better than plugging in and turning the amp to 11 and blasting away.

Dant0007 03-29-2004 10:42 PM

Man, sounds like we all suck together. I've been playing for 3 years and don't practice new stuff nearly enough. That's my problem right htere. I just play the old stuff over and over.

cleanx 03-29-2004 11:26 PM

im a studio musician
i love to jam though
i just bought a had made acoustic made of brazilian rose wood

jasonresno 03-30-2004 05:18 PM

i am learning. not that good yet.

woolyshambler 03-30-2004 07:18 PM

Cleanx: You're a studio musician? That's amazing! What kind of musical education did you have to go through?

woolley bear 03-31-2004 03:54 PM

Ive been playing for almost twenty years, had two cd's I played on one guitar one bass I also have 19 guitars 3 bass's 3 mandolins and a industrial steel lap slide guitar so I guess i'm hooked pretty bad. I play just about everything mostly jazz/rock style and I have a home recoding studio, I recorded a song for a demo and I had to play it live to prove it wasn't Satriani so stick with it new players it just takes time and practice till your fingers bleed

thespian86 03-31-2004 05:56 PM

I play guitar in a band and I've been playing for about four years. I write also so I write all the lyrics and second or "Rhythm" guitar for all the songs.

03-31-2004 07:44 PM

I've got an acoustic that I play around on occasionally. I'll admit, I'm pretty bad, but finding time to play between studying and assignments is a task that's beyond me.

This summer shall be the summer of the guitar :P

soopafreek 03-31-2004 09:14 PM

i play. i consider myself to be pretty good playing rhythm. i can't really shred. but i've played in bands and stuff. i still write and record too.

supafly 04-01-2004 01:10 PM

I just started playing electric guitar, can't play much. But i made my own stompbox. It's a Big Muff Pi replica and i love it.

jbuffett 04-01-2004 10:41 PM

All I can do is a few Buffett songs on the guitar. Trumpet and piano I'm pretty good at.

hfw01 04-02-2004 09:25 AM

I own a couple of guitars, and am in the process of building an electric. Unfortunately I suck when I try to play...

nazz 04-02-2004 10:39 AM

I've been trying to teach myself for about twenty years now.

I'm still needing to keep trying.

iamtheone 04-02-2004 12:11 PM

ok, here goes. Name the most UNDERATED guitar player today.....

"i gets no respect"

warrrreagl 04-03-2004 08:41 AM

Okay, but NO "Stairway To Heaven" allowed!

(guitar player since 1971)

evilbeefchan 04-04-2004 12:25 PM

Where do some of you get your tabs? Do you get them online or purchase the music sheets/books from stores? I mostly go to Mxtabs.net. I like the rating feature, but sometimes people get their friends to bloat it. Still some good stuff, though.

holymoly 04-06-2004 12:58 AM

I play guitar, if you have a generous description of "playing."

I've played for a couple years, and I suck, but I can play what I want to play (Ramones-inspired rock stuff) and I have little desire to play anything else, so I'm okay with my lack of skill.

Ballzor 04-17-2004 04:30 PM

Ive been playing for about 5 years. Self taught, Im working on my first cd, but the lack of talent in the surrounding area has caused me to do the whole thing myself. Ive got 2 electrics (Gibson Voodoo Sg, Fender Strat), 2 Acoustics, a bass, a ghetto drumset and a PA system. My play style goes from distorted rock songs to flamingo classical songs.

Best song I know - Classical Gas maybe?! Nothing Else Matters, the dreaded Stairway to Heaven.

rideough 04-19-2004 04:53 AM

I've been playing for a loong time and have a Strat, a Les Paul, a Frettless bass and a Takamine acoustic. Played in every kind of band from Megadeth covers to Elton John and John Prine.

Now I play in a traditional blues band(my first love) and am very happy about playing again and not being a musical "whore".

grumpyolddude 04-21-2004 08:12 AM

Been a player for over 35 years, a bassist for 31. Never good enough to pay the bills, but lots of fun.

Paradise Lost 04-21-2004 10:29 AM

Guitar player for a whole 3 days. (I decided to finally sit my
ass down over our short April break and start learning some stuff)

I'd be a bassist for 2 years if I had practiced more than 5 times
in those 2 years.... I'm so lazy. =(

blankstare 04-21-2004 06:47 PM

I've played bass for about 10 years now, and a little acoustic guitar for about 2. So I'm getting there, but I still think I have a lot to learn. I need to practice more...

That's my choice.

I've played guitar for about 20 years now. I'm not all that good really. I'm kinda on again off again depending on how much free time I have.

One thing I'd like to do more often is jam with some people. Whenever I get together with other players we have trouble finding a common ground to get going on. When we do though it's a lotta fun.

The best song I know would probably be "winter solstice" by the Tea Party. Spent a lot of time learning every bit of that one start to finish. Super fun song to play.
