Power Ballads
After watching the VH1 special on 80's hair bands my gf wants a compilation of a bunch of power ballads from the 80s/early 90s. So far this is what I have. Can anyone share any I'm not thinking of right now?
What I have: Scorpions - Wind Of Change Scorpions - No One Like You Scorpions - Still Loving You Warrant - Heaven Skid Row - I Remember You Skid Row - 18 and Life White Lion - When The Children Cry Cinderella - Nobody's Fool Saigon Kick - Love Is On The Way Fire House - Love Of A Lifetime Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes Def Leppard - Love Bites La Guns - The Ballad Of Jayne Tesla - Love Song |
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got (Til It's Gone) Bon Jovi - I'll be There For You Bon Jovi - Never Say Goodbye Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is Whitesnake - Is This Love Lita Ford & Ozzy - Close My Eyes Forever hmmm...I want to go make a compilation of my own now... :) |
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine
Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer Pantera - Cemetary Gates Extreme - More Than Words Meatloaf - I would do anything for love (but I wont do that) |
Would you guys consider anything by Manowar a power ballad or just something else entirely? Other than that, my submission is
Damn Yankees - High Enough |
Crazy Train!

A little off topic, but don't you think that Evanescence's "My Immortal" is the ultimate 21st Century Power Ballad? It's the song that Warrant wish they wrote 15 years ago

Bryan Adams - summer of '69
Genesis - i can't dance thats all i got |
Oh c'mon boys;
Motley Crue's - Home Sweet Home. It DEFINES the term power ballad. |
you can't have a power ballad album without November Rain or Sweet Child of Mine!!!
|
Well, it's not technically from a metal band, but "In Time" by Robbie Robb is pretty power balladish.
Mr. Big - To Be With You |
Some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned:
Aerosmith - Crazy Aerosmith - Cryin Guns n' Roses - Knockin on Heaven's Door |
Never been a huge fan of this particular niche. That said, Ozzy has a couple: Mama I'm Comin' Home and Road to Nowhere.

I saw that VH1 episode also and want to make a power ballad mix cd. Oh, the memories are rushing back  .

I would say that Firehouse's "When I Look Into Your Eyes" is a better power ballad than "Love of a Lifetime."
And I don't think that Skid Row's "18 and Life" would be consider a power ballad, and neither would "Crazy Train" or Genesis' "I Can't Dance" despite all of them being great songs. |
