I suppose the biggest difference is that evanesence is a christian rock act.

I've heard of this "evanescence". Its name is comprised of that of my own name. is it purchase-worthy or no?

They are not a christian rock band.. They do happen to be on a christian label which is funny but as they have said in intervies they have no religious affiliation with the label. I remember reading in some magazine how the label owns some christian stores and the album is being sold there. I think their reply was one of laughter and that if the manager actually listened to the CD he'd pull it from the shelves.

I'm a big fan of Lacuna Coil and The Gathering. I'll have to check some of those other suggestions out as well.

I've listened to my evanescence CD a few times and I picked up some religious overtones, but not enought to make my agnostic ass get pissy.

I like Amy Lee's voice very much. I love that her singing "fits" over the guitar and whatnot.

I've been looking for music like this since Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell II. Hard to find good singing over rock, especially lately. It's just not in style right now.

I appreciate the suggestions, I'm going looking for some of that.

Their lady lead singer is HOT... too bad her singing doesn't match the rest of the band's music at all... it's just too melodic for what's going on in the background.

I think they are pretty good, but I also am partial to chick singers. I think they do have some religious 'overtones' tossed in in a track or 2 - example Tourniquet. But like it was said above its not serious enough to make me not want to listen to it. Actually right now I think Tourniquet might be my favorite song of thiers.

You are so right on the money.. I have been tracking Evanescence' career for a short time now, and have even been able to track down some Pre-Fallen tracks. Amy Lees voice is so awsome, and their sound kicks ass. There is just about every emotion poured into their music. From the balads to the barn burners, I love them all. I look forward to hearing more from them in the near future.

I will be seeing them live next month in Clearwater, Fl.

ANyone buy this CD? Im contemplating it. Im trying to dl through Kazza and the sort but they all seem to have beebs and loops. Of the 5 or so tracks that I got (with very few beebs) They sound pretty kickass, that chic has a great voice.

So is it worth the purchase? Or should I just try a little harder to find it?

Sorry, but I couldn't aree more with mothodtim.

Maybe it's just the excessive airplay,(like every half hour to 15 minutes around my area, on EVERY freakin station), but I can't stand them now.

Just my opinion though.

concering the "christian act" thing... they aren't a christian band. they used to be on a christian label and i suppose then they were christian, but they have since signed with a major label for "Fallen" and while promoted through the major label's christian distributing sector, they have recently been pulled from that because they have said many times that they want no affiliation with being a christian band. they even went so far as to, on an interview, drop some F-bombs and compare themselves to Jesus' crucifiction. no more christian stuff for Evanescense. i say sales are sales. you can go into a christian book store and buy Chevelle's "Wonder What's Next" but they aren't a christian band at all, they just have christian roots. why would you alienate any certain part of your fan base? oh well...

OK.. Please don't think I'm trying to flame you, or make waves, cause I'm not. You should research your info before you post it though.

Up until Fallen, Evanescence was on an independent label, with hardly any exposure. Before Fallen, they shopped around trying to find an "out of the limelight" contract, with an established, but relatively unknown label. Wind-up records, who is the home for such bands as Creed, 12 Stones, Drowning Pool, and Seether, are a Christian label, but are not limited to Christian bands. What labeled Evanescence as a christian band, is a few interviews that they gave in the past years where they brought up allot of Christian views. Add some religious undertones to their music, backed by a Christian label, and you get a stereotype.

What has happened is, Evanescence bought back all there music from the Christian distributors, and stores, and stopped all Christian distribution of their product. Why? One can only speculate. Some can say that they are trying to deny their own beliefs for the sake of sales. That could be a good explanation.

Here's my take on it.. Lets look back at Creed for a moment, since they are a local band here. Creed is a very spiritual band, there is no denying that. That has been the base for their music since the beginning. As a Christian band, they want to get the message out about Jesus the best way they can, and they have the ability to get that message out through a medium that most evangelists can't, Rock n Roll. But lets face it, the the crowd of AC/DC fans don't want to hear about Jesus Christ, but they might listen to a song called My Own Prison. But if that AC/DC fan finds out that they are a "Christian Band" before their message sinks in, they may not want to listen anymore. Evanescence's music has many religious undertones, and there are messages there that I believe they are trying to get out. But they don't want to get Stereotyped into a corner where they can't get to the non believers. What good does there music do on a Christian radio station.

Now.. I could be wrong about that.. They may come out next year with a CD with a sacrificed cat on the cover, blood all over Amy Lees mouth, and a crusafics tattooed to her forehead. Who knows.

Also, if my facts are questioned here, look it up, Try Mtv.com

That is what makes it good

The fact that they did something a bit different and hit mainstream with it.

Amy Lee has an amazing voice. I hope they come out with more soon.

I don't particularly care what genre of music Evanescence is. They could be Christian, death metal or wear garbage bags over their heads.. they have a great fresh sound that appeals to me in a big way. I've only heard a few of their tunes but I'm anxious to hear some more

The band is terrible. It makes you wonder how much money their record label has paid to the radio stations to play the hell out of it.

So many morons

Evanescence is outstanding and amazing. Amy Lee's vocals and Ben Moody's guitar work blend beautifully together. Anyone who says "they sound like a Linkin Park ripoff" is a complete jackass who only listened to "Bring Me To Life."
If you want to hear their very first CD, look for "Origin." It's VERY good and has a couple songs that are also on "Fallen." The original version of "My Immortal" is even better without all the strings in the background.

You know, that's what attracted me to the band. The irony of it makes it sound all that much better IMHO. Well, then and the singer is hot.

That helps.

Cruise around your favorite p2p app for "Not For Your Ears" It has all unrelased stuff from them. It also has the orginal cut of "Bring Me To Life." Sounds quite different than the version on "Fallen." There is a depth to their lyrics that I really enjoy, not to mention the pure hotness of Amy Lee.

As a footnote, another band to check out, if you like Evanescence is Ambeon. Good stuff there too.

I like Evanescence. They do have that different sound that you dont hear very often. And whoever says that they are a linkin park rip off is way off base, as Maxarian said.

They do play Bring me To Life way way too much though. So much so that I skip the song when i get to it on the cd and change the station if it comes on the radio. But I really like the band. Amy Lee is super hot.
