Army Commercial
I don't know if anyone's commented on this yet, but I thought it was kind of disturbing.. I was watching TV the other day, and this US Army commercial came on and it took me a few minutes to realize what song was playing in the background.. mind you they didn't have lyrics, just the beginning of it. But it was still disturbing, the song was Dope - Die Motherfucker Die. I suppose it was fitting for the US Army, but coming from Canada, it seemed fucked up to me.. for anyone that hasn't heard the song, (i still like the song, it's been in my playlist for years) here are the lyrics:
Dope - Die Motherfucker Die I don't need your forgiveness I don't need your hate I don't need your acceptance So what should I do? I don't need your resistance I don't need your prayers I don't need no religion Run away, away from you! I don't do what I've been told, You're so lame why don't you just go? DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! I don't need your present I don't need your pray I don't need your decision So what should I do? I don't need your approval I don't need your quote I don't need your lecture Run away, away from you! I'll be sorry when I'll go? You're so full of shit man just go! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! I don't need your forgiveness I don't need your hate I don't need your acceptance So what should I do? I'll be sorry so you said, Well I'm not sorry - Bang you're dead! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! DIE MOTHERFUCKER, DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE! Yep, that's my two cents, I'm not sure if it's been commented on before here.. I just wanted to hear some other opinions on it.. |

actually, I'm pretty sure that you've got the wrong song.
the only song that I've heard the army use lately has been Godsmack's 'Alive' of course, I could be completely wrong, but after listening to the dope song, I'd swear that I've never heard it Anywhere before.

I've only heard the Army song with the Godsmack song "Alive" I think its an ok song for the commercial. If there really is a commercial with that Dope song on it, I'd be shocked. It really isn't appropriate for an Army commercial. They might as well as put Metallica's "Disposable Heroes" on it instead:
Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all Victim of what said should be a servant `til I fall Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends bodies fill the fields I see the slaughter never ends Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Why, Am I dying? Kill, have no fear Lie, live off lying Hell, Hell is here I was born for dying Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say had no chance to see myself, molded day by day Looking back I realize, nothing have I done left to die with only friend Alone I clench my gun Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Back to the front. IMO, this song has some of the best lyrics for a war-related song ever. |

Well it could be worse, could be Simon and Garfunkle or the Queer Eye 4 the Straight Guy song. The lyrics are pretty fucking horrible along with the band Dope, but if it gets em riled up to go kill some terrorists than Im all for it.

I don't think that the Army intended anyone to look into their advertisements enough that one would take the background music and find the lyrics and flip out about it. This is just how stupid controversies start, like the anti-sematic shit with the jesus movie. I also have only heard the Godsmack song, and I think that even IF the Army used that Dope song, they were just going with the harder intro, and could give a shit less about the lyrics.

I don't know how specific we're getting, but I was pretty sure that "Alive" was on the Navy commercial? Does this matter? I haven't seen the Dope Army commercial, if it in fact exists, but I'll look for it.
Chingal0 said it best, this is how stupid controversies start. Just take it for what it is, hard music for a tough commercial. |
