music for my funeral
it's a topic i've been thinking about for a little less than a year. whenever i go to a funeral or a wake, the music is so damn boring. i mean, yeah, respect the dead and all that, but for my funeral, i want good music! not saying that it has to get everyone jumping out of the pews, but something to listen to. in fact, for my funeral, i'm not sure if i want anyone to say anything. i just want them to listen. anyways, the only songs i know i want are:
common - "nag champa" rjd2 - "rain" and "june" radiohead - "fake plastic trees" and "bulletproof...i wish i was" what says youS? |

what about the same annoying music as they play in supermarkets and elevators?!
|
every time I'm in a car... and often just walking around with headphones on.. I think, if I were to die suddenly, I would want what I was listening to at that moment to be played at my funeral. I'm sure there will be something meaningful, or at least amusing, about it.
Whether that's some goa trance that leads what I do on a daily basis.. or the irony of me momentarily stopping to listen to 10 seconds of N*sync's pop crap... yup.. |
The drum solo to "In-a-gadda-da-vida (sp?)"
Maybe that wouldn't be so good, come to think of it. I've thought that the Concrete Blonde song "Darkening of the Light" would be a good funeral song. "Like a ghost is the curtain In the white light of the morning Dancing in the morning Are you there - are you there? And a shadow like a sadness Falling all across the garden Dancing in the garden Are you there, are you there? Shine on, friend. goodnight Why then then darkening of the light And the leaves at my feet Whisper sounds so familiar Are you there? are you there? Where the clouds pull apart And the moon changes faces In the quiet secret places Are you there? are you there?" A bad song to play at a funeral would be "Sex Type Thing" by STP. |
Being the literal-minded type I am, I think Elton John's "Funeral For a Friend" would be a good choice. Plus it's just a damn cool song. I wish he woulda explored prog rock more.

Rob D - Clubbed to death.
I picture a cold, dreary, rainy day. The song begins, my casket being lowered, while everyone begins to walk away the beat kicks in. Ahhh good. |
Jeff Buckley - Satisfied Mind
Wesley Willis - Dumpster My Ass |
Any Elliott Smith or Bright Eyes to make people feel the pain of me dieing
|
LL Cool J - The G.O.A.T. for me!!
:) |
Call me boring, but I'll be happy with Taps :)

Light Years by Pearl Jam
I’ve used hammers made out of wood I have played games with pieces and rules I’ve deciphered tricks at the bar But now you’re gone, I haven’t figured out why I’ve come up with riddles and jokes about war I’ve figured out numbers and what they’re for I’ve understood feelings, and I’ve understood words But how could you be taken away? And wherever you’ve gone, and wherever we might go It don’t seem fair, today just disappeared Your light’s reflected now, reflected from afar We were but stones, your light made us stars The heavy breath, awakened regrets Backpages and days alone, that could have been spent Together, but we were miles apart Every inch between us becomes light years now No need to be void, or save up on life You got to spend it all And wherever you’ve gone, and wherever we might go It don’t seem fair, you seemed to like it here Your light’s reflected now, reflected from afar We were but stones, your light made us stars And wherever you’ve gone, and wherever we might go It don’t seem fair, today just disappeared Your light’s reflected now, reflected from afar We were but stones, your light made us stars Just a beautiful song... |
Kansas - Dust In The Wind
duuuuuuuust in the wiiiiiiind all we are is duuuuust in the wiiiiiind |
Jeff Foxworthy - You know your a redneck if...
Family Guy and Simpsons theme songs. Yep, that pretty much sums things up for me  If I had to pick something for my funeral's ending credits, maybe Standing on the Edge of Summer by Thursday. |
Hell Awaits by Slayer...naturally.

The critic was great!
The DVD of the entire series is out now...unfortunately im broke The Critic DVD As for my funeral music I think I'd like a mix of really happy and depressing music...kinda liven things up a bit |
Tool - No Quarter (zeppelin version)
Muse - Butterflies and Hurricanes Butterfly Effect - Beautiful Mine |

Used in this context, I think it would fit well.. It's a very impressive song.. almost overwhelming, but also relaxing. |
something by Cannibal Corpse or Anal Cunt... just to offend and piss people off.
|
oh, and the very ending song of the funeral should be "every move you make" by the police. kinda like how on krusty's statue, it says "see ya real soon kids!" something to remember me by, at the least
|
Break on Through - The Doors
How To Dissapear Completely - Radiohead Feel Like Making Love - Of course the Kid Rock versioin! |
I'd play The End by The Doors.
Put words up on a screen so everybody could sing along. It would be great. |
Well, I'm a Vet, so Taps will be played. Also, due to membership in a few civic organizations, I will, more like as not, have pipers playing Amazing Grace. Actually, Amazing Grace, and Scotland the Brave, are the only songs that I can stand to hear on the bagpipes. Other than that, I really don't know.
|
Dropkick Murphys - The Gangs All Here
Flogging Molly - For the Grace of God Go I And for the life of me I can't remember the name of it but the first song John Lennon wrote for his son Sean... Only because I was named after Sean Lennon. |
I want "See you later alligator" played at my funeral
|
there is a piano solo of the of full circle by pennywise
its 10 mins long and you have to wait 10 mins before you can hear it after the last song |
wagner - liebstod
everyone will be weeping, wailing and beating their heads with rocks... |
I can't believe that no one has mentioned Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.
|
call me old fashioned, but i'd use Chopin's funeral march.. OR, Arvo Part's Pari Intervallo.
|
at my guitar teacher's funeral :(
they played "flying in a blue dream" by joe satriani it was very moving... for my own I'd have "Always with Me, Always with You" also by Joe Satriani |
cranberries dreams (call me cheesy, but it's *my* funeral ;) )
system f's out of the blue Bach's tocatta fugue |

Walking on Sunshine by Katarina and the Waves. Stop being so depressing folks, just because you're dead doens't mean everyone has to be miserable. I am throwing a party when I die and blowing all my future childrens' inheritance on booze for the guests.
|
Bach's Organ Fugue in G minor.
|
kanye west - jesus walks
tight ass song and would just sound right at a funeral. |
Well, considering that I won't be there to listen to it I'm thinking anything you would hear on top 40 today--just to be an ass and get torture my friends one last time!!
|
Depends what I died of. If it was cancer, I'd go for Lump by Presidents of the United States of America. If I drowned I'd go for Cry Me A River &c. &c.
|
I've thought about this myself, quite often, along with starting to compile a will and testimony filled with compassion, love, and happiness- not sadness.
Let's see, I would say: "Angel Standing By", "Life Uncommon"- by Jewel "Slow Down Time" or "Back to the Sea" (hence my nickname)- by Sky Cries Mary I am also really in love with the new song from Evenescence, although it is quite sad. "My Immortal" I cry every time I hear it, it is so beautiful. |
