Music Backwards (literally)

This is interesting, a short clip of Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead played backwards:
Backwards Fake Plastic Trees

I am not sure how they did it? Although i found this (shareware or something version) Audioedit program to literally reverse a mp3 or wav track. Interestingly, i tried revesing this version of Fake Plastic Trees (so it'd be back to the original), it worked alright, but had this weird echo effect.

Anyway, the backwards version of this Fake Platic Trees sounds (to me) quite similar to Sigur Ros, mainly cause of the inaudible language (icelandic etc) and the cool synth ambient landscapes. Cool anyway

I wonder if this will ever be a form of remixing. I believe Like Spinning Plates off of Radiohead's Amnesiac album used some similar techniques, of either Yorke singing backwards and then getting it played forwards, or using a backing track of one of their other songs, which was played forwards...
ok -> Like Spinning PLates Info

Thought it was cool, so i'd share. And not just applicable to Radiohead tracks. I am gonna try some other stuff when i get home

Try out Mindless Self Indulgence - Backmask.
A song with intentional backwards stuff.

Two good ones:
"Fire on High" by ELO: "The music is reversible, but time is not. Turn back!"

"No Anchovies, Please" by The J. Geils Band: "It doesn't take a genius to tell the difference between chicken shit and chicken salad."

if anyone's picked up or dloaded the grey album, i hear that the interlude after lucifer, if played backwards, has some satanic stuff.

If anyone still has AOL, try this...
Take the WAV file "You've Got Mail" and play it backwards. It sounds like "I Am Ugly."

Then, record yourself saying, "I Am Ugly." Play it backwards, and it should sound like "You've Got Mail."

That's how backmasking has been done for the past 40 years; find something that sounds remotely like something else when played backward, and then fuck around a little bit with the forward part to make it sound even closer.

The Beatles (obviously) are a good primary source for this stuff. Here are a few to get you started.
Rain - 1966
Tomorrow Never Knows - 1966
Strawberry Fields Forever - 1967
I'm So Tired - 1968
Only a Northern Song - 1968
Revolution 9 - 1968
