Haunting Music

Im not talking about music you would hear in a haunted house, but music that just has a haunted or really dark feeling to it. Something like Joy Divison in some cases sounds haunting to me. Anyone else have any suggestions? I feel in a dark mood.

Moonlight Sonata By Beethoven

I think, mainly, because it was played at the start of the game Shadowman on the Nintendo 64 (release in '99 i think?) and that's a creepy game, so i get the connotation there.

That said, i've heard the full part of it before and it acctually gets more cheerful, but i like the creepy piano at the start, which (come to think of it) is creepy nevertheless.

Speaking of which, i gotta get more of this magical symphony stuff off of my dad. It's money

'Sleepy Hollow' by Korn is a very haunting sounding. As a matter of fact, they have a lot of dark sounding songs, but that one I mentioned is particularly dark.

Edit. Now that I see that you like joy division, you might like HIM or even Fugazi. They have a similar style and have that dark sound.

Anything by Elend, especially Umbersun. That album is positively demonic. Perhaps even terrifying.

For something more fitting the "haunting" but not "haunted" description, try the Damnation album by Opeth.

Ya, lots of Opeth stuff is kinda 'haunting' ..

Emperor is kinda like that too. Lots of shit you'd hear in bad dracula movies from the 50's and 60's.

Anything off the Silent Hill soundtracks is what I would call "haunting". Most of the stuff is really good, too.

I've found that cranking up the intro to Eraser (The song, not the movie) while driving alone at night gives a nice creepy feeling.

Quite a bit of Type O Negative stuff I would classify as haunting. Try "Black No. 1" or thier cover of "Summer Breeze".

Too obvious? "Haunted" by Poe. Best listened to in conjunction with reading "House of Leaves", by her brother.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails: The song, and the remix "The Bottom" on Further Down the Spiral is a good one. Hell, the whole CD.

The Frail (Version) on Things Falling Apart (NIN)

Delirium Cordia - Fantomas. The entire CD is a 74 minute long song, but it's definitely some of the most twisted stuff I've ever heard. About 8 or 9 minutes into it, there's this very dark music with what sounds like a dentist picking away at someone's teeth.. or scraping of flesh off of a bone. It's described as "Possibly the soundtrack to a very dark, fever induced nightmare." Definitely worth checking out.

Fantastic recommend. Loved that album, and it is indeed haunting.

Climbing up the walls by Radiohead has a bit of an eerie feeling to it. Don't know if you would consider it to be 'haunted' but as far as I know, its about the fears of the people in a mental asylum, where Thom (lead singe) worked before forming the band

get some Stabbing Westward going on. I forgot about them.

I suggest What Do I Have to Do, Save Yourself, and Shame. Shame is more rock-induced (or something like it). The first two are winners for what you're lookin' for.
