Foreign Language Bands..
 

Does anyone listen to bands that aren't their native tongue. I mean there are probably alot of people here who listen to J-pop (which I avoid like the plague..) but I love my angry german music (I.E. Rammstein) and recently ..I've found this wierd..haunting..yet I loathe to admit it because their French..band called KYO..something about them..is just ..clicky with me.

my brother lives in Japan, and he sends me all these DVD singles of J-Pop...
i don't know what they're singing about, but its always amusing.
apart from that, and the odd French bits in AIR songs, thats all i really listen to.

Sigur Ros (a made up language mixing English, Icelandic, and gibberish)

Well I listen to english music which is not my native language :)
but i guess this doesn't count since most music is in english.

beside that i listen to some mediaeval rock/metal and a lot of those bands sing in latin / old german (Old High German) or old skadinavic languages

KMFDM sing/scream in German sometimes.
Does that count??

I listen to Rammstein sometimes, that's about it

If you like neo-soul...the check out Les Nubians. They're two French girls who are pretty chill...and sing "en francais."

Also this other weird ass group called Runes...they have their own language.

What's wrong with them being French?

I like Lhasa (sexy, sexy Spanish, mostly folk songs), Manu Chao (also Spanish, but more playful, especially the song "Me gustas tu"), J-Punk (like "Wipeout"), J-Rockabilly (Guitar Wolf!) and a lot of French-Canadian stuff (Les Cowboys Fringuants, Les Marmottes Aplaties...). Like Pacifier, my native language isn't English, but listing all my favorite English speaking bands would be too time-consuming and sorta pointless here.

I'm amazed every time I listen to the Cocteau Twins to learn that she sings exclusively in English... though, I understand that Liz uses some Old English in her lyrics.

I have a lot of music that is in foriegn languages, but hardly any that I would put in the "band" category.

Sure I do.

I listen to lots of bands where the language is either in:

-Swedish
-Norwegian
-Finnish
-Polish
-Latin

As for what bands they are? Thats my little secret. :cool:

I liked Paul Simon's "Graceland" album, which had some african music on it.

I like Wasis Diop. He's from Ghana I think.

I listen to alot of american and English music

I'm into Noir Desir, an excellent French rock group. These guys are really talented musicians. The lead singer is one of the best ever. Even though you can't understand the language, the feeling
behind the words comes out clear. Also, they sing a bunch of songs in English as well.

Also, Telephone, another French group, is very cool. They're not as good as Noir Desir, but they're music is great too. They are the French equivalent of most rock bands in the US from the late 70s and 80s.

I listen to an Israeli hip hop group called Subliminal and the Shadow and all of their music is in Hebrew. It's amazing

Yes! I love Noir Desir! You should check out the song "Le vent l'emportera" (the wind will blow it away). It's one of their more subdued songs, but well worth a listen.

Rammstein's good stuff too. I've actually always wanted to find a band that used Quenya (tolkien Elvish) but no luck so far.
