Favorite albums of 2003
 

Just trying to get a taste of the styles floating around this board...

My favorite records of the year were:
1. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Pig Lib
2. The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
3. Blur - Think Tank
4. The Wrens - The Meadowlands
5. British Sea Power - The Decline of British Sea Power
6. Grandaddy - Sumday
7. The Rapture - Echoes
8. Yo La Tengo - Summer Sun
9. Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power
10. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
I thought the Radiohead album was very good, but I didn't like it much. If that makes any sense.

I've yet to hear the new Belle & Sebastian or Decemberists albums, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with my list. I was pretty underwhelmed by the new output of The Books, The Strokes, The White Stripes, Broken Social Scene, and Manitoba, which many of my friends liked.

IMO, 2003 was a much better year for music than 2002 or 2001, which I felt were pretty weak.

What was everybody else's favorite albums of 2003?

This is actually not only my top 10 list, but the 10 total cds I got that were from 2003. Hence, the emphasis that the rankings on the last three carry.

I've heard good stuff about that Wrens album and I like the two songs I've sampled. I may have to add it to the list.

Here's my top 10. I had some trouble deciding on the last couple, but I'm certain about the top 3.

4. Thursday: War All the Time
5. Blur: Think Tank
6. The Strokes: Room On Fire
7. The Mars Volta: De-loused in the Comatorium
8. Elbow: Cast of Thousands
9. The Shins: Chutes Too Narrow
10. The White Stripes:Elephant

Metallica: St. Anger. I love it. And what everyone else said as well. Those are all good.

Huh, right before I made this thread I did a forum search for 'albums 2003', and http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=40115 didn't show up, or at least I just didn't see it. My bad, folks.
