[MacOS X] iLife 4.0: GarageBand
 

So I wanted to start a thread that discussed GarageBand. I've been a Mac fanatic for years and absolutely love GarageBand. I'm a beginner musician, granted, but I think that it will even make it easier for those who are novice/advanced to create homegrown music.

If you've used it, what makes it good/bad? Post your music, too, if you have some!

If you haven't used it (and I'm targeting this specifically to beginner musicians), what would you hope to see?

Garageband is the shiznit, but I generally throw in with the idea of free music from folks that understand that an audience is a priveledge not a right. You would be suprised with the number of musicians that will write back to you if you submit feedback or straight up email them. I've met a couple of guys that I regularly correspond with via Garageband.

But, somehow, I think that we're talking about 2 different things though. I'm talking about a music website (garageband.com) and I think you're talking about software. Maybe this should be moved to tilted computers.

I haven't purchased it yet, but I'm dying to. First I need to buy some more RAM so I can speed it up to 768 MB (that's as high as my iMac can go without me messing with the internal slot), then I need to buy this guy to play nicely with my Korg and my mics, then of course I gotta buy iLife.

I'm really looking forward to using the program. It seems to be extremely intuitive, and even more importantly, the $50 price is cheaper than any other comparative software - unless you want to go to the effort to aquire a lot of freeware and then make sure they all play nicely together, etc.

The loops vaguely interest me but I'm not really coming from the standpoint that a lot of the recent news articles are coming from - the standpoint of "hey, I can't even keep rhythm, and look what I created!". I'm more interested in multi-track recording. I'm interested in using my synth, my voice and my acoustic guitar. The guitar effects seem like they will be awesome when I want to play with my electric.

So all in all, it'll cost me about $350 but in many cases, that's cheaper than some of the comparative programs. I think can't wait to play around with it. Mike, check out MacJams - they have some great info over there on GarageBand.

I'll report back in about a month or so when I finally have the time to buy and try all this stuff. :)

oh man, that MIDI interface looks hot; my bud was thinking of getting Garageband but he needs one of those babies

i got garageband from my wife as a birthday present last week. i don't think she knew what she was getting me into.

now all of my little chord progressions are being fleshed out with strings, drum loops, horn stabs.
