ahh stealing from MusiciansForums.com huh?
Well so I end up with some Driftwood huh? Well...it starts out with some Van Halen-Eruption style hammer ons...easy, but it sounds cool...then moves onto some decent riffs, bass part is kinda repeditive, back to some more of the same guitar work...the lyrics are lame, the vocals are very tepid, bordering on sucking major ass... The more i listen the more I think this singer shouldnt sing. All in all, a very lukewarm, mainstreamitised effort, with lousy unorigional guitar work.

Next: Dream Theater- A Change of Seasons. I hope you have some time on your hands

Opeth - The Amen Corner

Usually, these kind of vocals really drag a song down in my eyes, but something's different here. I can say that I thoroughly enjoy the song from start to finish. Nice mixture of metal and acoustic. Opeth's a band I've definitely gotten into, and one of their albums may be my second-ever metal purchase (not including nu-metal). Good stuff.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - "Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone"

Interesting, sort of a college band sound with a heavy shot of Bob Dylan thrown in there. The music, although rather repetitive, isn't bad. Sort of upbeat, but the guitar solo in the middle sounds something like what happens when I touch a guitar.

Something about the vocalist's voice just irritates me, though.

awesome. very funky, sexy sound about it. the bass is simply incredible. i assume that he's the bassist. not a bad vocal track either. i think i'll check out more of his stuff based on this.

Interesting... has a nice slow beat so far... I like the heavy synth...lyrics seem a bit repetitive but not a huge problem... song ends very abruptly... I wonder if that's actually part of it... reminiscent of Blood Brothers' "The Shame" if so... I'd have to say it was pretty good.

Good song, not my forte, but good nonetheless. Uplifting-ish lyrics, make me want to sing and dance and stuff. Not really sure what genre you'd classify it as, but check it out. Real hard to find on kazaa tho.

Listening to this song, so far kickass... sounds like equal parts Converge and Black Dahlia Murder so far... the sound quality on this cut is a bit subpar... but that's not the band's fault... they need to turn up the bass a bit but that's not a huge problem... ok, this kicked ass... loved the math-ish death metal approach, totally brutal, while at the same time showing great musical skill. great track.

I like this song. It reminds me of some punkish songs from the 90's particularly Sebadoh or Eleventh Dream Day. Upon looking at the bands website I see that they are formed from Fidelity Jones and Nation of Ulysses -which isn't suprising.

They do sound like a funkified punk -with a very creative beat. I like it.

Speaking of punk, here is a song from a band that is still around... I was into this band in the 1980's which shows my age

Not bad, just not my particular style of music. Simple, almost-funk-but-not-quite music seems to work rather well in this case.

I really like the Reverend. I've seen him twice and I don't think I've heard this song yet. I like the general retro feel to his music. I think if he was born in the 40's then he would be as big as Gene Vincent or Buddy Holly.

The song is a great rockabilly song about a car. That's one thing that rockabilly songs seem to do -idolize cars. In this case the car is a beautiful old car without air conditioning... I guess it's tragic for this reason. Definitely worth a listen and don' t tell anyone I'm downloading it to my library.

a decent metal-core track...the one thing that stands out is the drummer...working the double bass pedal like a motherfucker...as a whole, the bands sound is along the lines of Converge or Mastodon....somewhere in the middle....brutal

Very interesting song here. Not too sure what to think of it after one listen. Starts out really fast and then half way kicks back to almost a totally different song. Dosn't really seem to be any one theme tying it together. I like some of the parts of it but on a whole it's not my style.

Cool song...VERY different for a country song. Usually don't like country...like this song alot. Never heard anything like it. Laid back tempo, kinda dream-like, great flow to it. Who knew? "Cool Country". Very nice song.

I love this! Are all their music like the track above? This would do great for a chillout mix. Things that stood out for me were the interesting bass line, the ethereal guitar, and the calming ambiance. I am definitely checking out more of their work.

I like it. Catchy guitar work and cool ambiant sounds. At some points I felt her vocals didn't match with what I would expect to hear with this kind of music but overall I enjoyed it.

Also, it's interesting you said zero 7 would be great for a chillout mix. I have a 2 disc cd called "The Chillout" and one of their tracks is on that.

Wow... I wasn't sure what to expect from this song, since I don't find much of Paul's stuff to my liking. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked the Beatles and all, but his solo stuff wasn't always 100% "on", if you know what I mean.

Anyway, to the topic at hand. What a FANTASTIC song! I was impresed at the simplistic poignancy of the lyrics, and the almost lullabye-esque melody. A good, optimistic song about knowing the world around you and re-evaluating your surroundings; seeing the bigger picture.

Great song, thanks for the lead.

Interesting, creative, and upbeat song. I've heard elements of Jazz, some 60's rock, and something else I can't quite place a finger on. I like the "retro" feel alot, and this song has got it!

The Magnetic Fields - "Fear of Trains"

I immediately thought of the Pixies/Frank Black after hearing a few lines from the singer. Instrumentally, it's a pleasant mix of pop and folk with some electronic instruments that aren't overbearing. The lyrics seem to tell the woes of a black woman but they aren't pretentious (and the chorus is catchy).

I like Ween. Admittedly, I probably wouldn't recognize most ween songs if they were played for me, but, from what I've heard, I've enjoyed them quite a bit.
This song is a roller coaster of like and not-so-hot-about-it.
Musically, it's entertaining. Nothing horribly groundbreaking, but it's not cookie cutter pop either. Nice melody that's elevated by a strong, dramatic elec. guitar build. This is probably the best part of the song, and what would make me want to listen to it more times. Reminds me a bit of Queen.
I realy don't like the effect used on the voice.. the raspyness is fine, but it cuts in so harshly it drags down the rest of the song.
Lyrics are nice... fits the mood of the song very well =) though I don't get anything worthwhile from them, in which case, I'm mostly of the mindset that if you can't teach me somthing, then dont' say anything (in lyrics).
It ends far too quickly... one of those songs where I think I would really like it if they kept going with it, but as it is, it's alot of building tension that lets off abruptly.
I'll probably listen to it a few times more.. it does make me want to listen to more Ween, for sure =)

Mr Projectile - Less Math, More Music

Managed to find it on Soulseek, I like it

I found it really soothing after a hard day's work, it's got a really gentle and relaxing tone, a really impressive electronica song. It's not really the kind of stuff I usually listen to, I generally prefer music with lyrics, although now that I know there's some good stuff out there I'll probably search for some to add to my playlist. Thanks for the suggestion.

mini review of Bonecracker... starts off with a rather standard technoish 4/4 into, then RIPS with some great heavy elec guitars, that Slice right through... great! then the guy starts.. geh... I'm not a fan of those sorts of vocals.. at all... sounds like someone is squeezing his nuts.. which probably pissed him off enough to start screaming in flow with the song at the end (which I liked then). Great song (aside from the guy;-) ..

For those who like the easy going, pop songs of the elder Lennon, or perhaps Elton John.. this is for you. Not too hard at all, in fact quite mild mannered.
The lyrics are very sweet. Good, and safe. very safe. love and a river, very sweet.
musically it's entertaining, and there are parts in it I really like with the guitar, though it's really just a love song for the radio.

And now that we're on the subject of pop love songs...

Very pleasant, atmospheric yet catchy. The dueling vocals style reminded me of the White Stripes' "Well It's True That We Love One Another", only not as cheesy. I'm really getting into this band, I liked "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" and the few other songs I've heard as well. I may delve into the Death Cab For Cutie collection first, though.

Things that stood out for me were the interesting bass line, the ethereal guitar, and the calming ambiance. I am definitely checking out more of their work. sherpahigh So Hip it Hurts Location: Up here in my tree	Moonraker - Courageous World I like it. Catchy guitar work and cool ambiant sounds. At some points I felt her vocals didn't match with what I would expect to hear with this kind of music but overall I enjoyed it. Also, it's interesting you said zero 7 would be great for a chillout mix. I have a 2 disc cd called "The Chillout" and one of their tracks is on that. kulrblind plays well with others Location: Canada	Mamunia: Wow... I wasn't sure what to expect from this song, since I don't find much of Paul's stuff to my liking. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked the Beatles and all, but his solo stuff wasn't always 100% "on", if you know what I mean. Anyway, to the topic at hand. What a FANTASTIC song! I was impresed at the simplistic poignancy of the lyrics, and the almost lullabye-esque melody. A good, optimistic song about knowing the world around you and re-evaluating your surroundings; seeing the bigger picture. Great song, thanks for the lead. Next song... Anomaly_ Insane	The Magnetic Fields - "Fear of Trains" I immediately thought of the Pixies/Frank Black after hearing a few lines from the singer. Instrumentally, it's a pleasant mix of pop and folk with some electronic instruments that aren't overbearing. The lyrics seem to tell the woes of a black woman but they aren't pretentious (and the chorus is catchy). Next: Amon Tobin - "Slowly"

bigbad Insane	Mr Projectile - Less Math, More Music Managed to find it on Soulseek, I like it I found it really soothing after a hard day's work, it's got a really gentle and relaxing tone, a really impressive electronica song. It's not really the kind of stuff I usually listen to, I generally prefer music with lyrics, although now that I know there's some good stuff out there I'll probably search for some to add to my playlist. I'm not a fan of those sorts of vocals.. at all... sounds like someone is squeezing his nuts.. which probably pissed him off enough to start screaming in flow with the song at the end (which I liked then). Great song (aside from the guy;-) .. *** Julian Lennon - Valotte For those who like the easy going, pop songs of the elder Lennon, or perhaps Elton John.. this is for you. Not too hard at all, in fact quite mild mannered. The lyrics are very sweet. Good, and safe. very safe. love and a river, very sweet. musically it's entertaining, and there are parts in it I really like with the guitar, though it's really just a love song for the radio. And now that we're on the subject of pop love songs... FoolThemAll Walking is Still Honest Location: Seattle, WA	The Postal Service - Nothing Better Very pleasant, atmospheric yet catchy. The dueling vocals style reminded me of the White Stripes' "Well It's True That We Love One Another", only not as cheesy. I'm really getting into this band, I liked "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" and the few other songs I've heard as well. I may delve into the Death Cab For Cutie collection first, though.
