One? Maybe the first half, but I wouldn't consider it that much ligher than the rest of their stuff. Sure, they have heavier stuff, but not enough heavier to make One seem light.

The two that I was going to mention (In Flames - Metahpor, and Opeth- Damnation album) have already been said.

Man all this great music by great bands and you guys either left off one of the greats or know nothing of them. My alltime favorite slow songs by insane heavy bands are

Acid Bath
1.Smoke the bones of BabyDolls
2.Scream of the Butterfly
3.Dead Girl

Redjake 01-25-2004 08:27 AM

Fade to Black. I LOVE that song. wow I love Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters and One too. Fade to Black I recently discovered (read: past year) and I can't get enough of it.

the acoustic be quiet and drive is one of the most beautiful tings i've ever heard

wrongfullyaccuzd 01-25-2004 02:01 PM

Not really sure if this is valid on several counts, but I wanted to mention Staind's cover of Pearl Jam's "Black." And the original, too, of course.

wipeout 01-26-2004 12:50 PM

the old skool green day song forgot the name

dy156 01-26-2004 02:03 PM

Hello??!!

Every Rose has its Thorn --Poison

The deepest, most meaningful song I know. It still gets to me sometimes. And the chord progression was just so different and cool.

ToolBag 01-26-2004 02:06 PM

Good call on the Deftones acoustic, I love that song.

Thursday - This song brought to you by a falling bomb.

Rawrr 01-26-2004 02:16 PM

From Autumn To Ashes - Chloroform Perfume

Finch - Letters To You

Funeral For A Friend - Your revolution is a Joke

Sevendust - Skeleton Song

Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

The Used - On My Own

Edit: Sorry if there are repeats kinda just started to post

Letters to you is really no lighter than most other finch songs, Ender is certainly much lighter than that.

Rawrr 01-26-2004 03:02 PM

oh really? hehe well I actually haven't heard Ender as Letters To You was on the Punk Gone Acoustic CD and it was a pretty light song will have to give Ender a listen.

Ohhhhhh... well that was an acoustic version of Letters to You then, the original version is pretty much parallel to the rest of their stuff.

Atomic Pinkie 01-29-2004 10:01 PM

In Flames - Acoustic Medley
In Flames - Pallers Anders Visa
In Flames - Whoracle

to name a few

nash 01-30-2004 02:17 PM

He's not a band, but I heard Slash playing Flamenco. Song is called Obsession Confession. He's pretty good at it.

In addition to a lot of the ones listed above:

Death - Moment of Clarity (instrumental off of Sound of Perseverance - a beautiful song)
Machine Head - The Burning Red
Fear Factory - Timelessness
Flotsam and Jetsam - Trash (acoustic, hidden track on the album "My God" - every metal fan should buy that album)
Faith no More - RV (angel dust, funny song)
Sepultura - Hidden precussion track at the end of "Roots"
Down - Lies and Where I'm Going - Both on Down II

eawe 03-05-2004 12:14 PM

avenged sevenfold - warmness on the soul

but avenged sevenfold is all about the token cheesy power ballad on every album

03-05-2004 06:56 PM

It's been mentioned, but I love the song too much not to mention it again

More than Words by Extreme is an amazing song...

Definately! Also, some of the tracks which switch between heavy and soft are fantastic (eg Venus Blue).

Rammstein I would say Seeman, Mutter and Klavier.

Opeth do some great stuff as Darth Kettch mentioned. Some fantastic acoustic sequences.

I like Fear Factory's softer stuff, usually last couple of songs on their albums. Interesting stuff usually (a therapy for pain, timelessness, etc).

HeAtHeN 03-05-2004 09:46 PM

Type O Negative - Love you to death

NeverBorn 03-09-2004 10:14 PM

If you're talking Mushroomhead softies..its not Nowhere to Go..you need to use One More Day

braindamage351 11-22-2004 08:33 PM

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence VIII: Losing Time/Grand Finale
This is a great song, and the solo is just amazing. It's the most emotional solo in Dream Theater's catelogue (It's only competition being The Spirit Carries On), but it's buried so deep that no one really notices it.

More Dream Theater - The Spirit Carries On, Space-Dye Vest

For some reason I can't find any ballads from Slayer.

K-Wise 11-22-2004 09:06 PM

Guns & Roses - November Rain
System Of A Down - Spiders
Rush - Tears
Bad Company - Ready For Love
Finger Eleven - Awake and Dreaming, Broken Words
Skid Row - I remember you
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man, Tuesdays Gone
Bush - Glycerine, Alien, Letting The Cables Sleep, 40 Miles From The Sun, Inflatable
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Cold - Gone Away

I gotta admit most of those probably wouldn't qualify in the normal listeners perception of "heavy" bands but I gauge heaviness by the energy of the music and the anger or vulnerability in their voice...not by I can sream really deep and loud so as to sound angry at everything and really CRUNCH the power chords to where they almost don't sound musical anymore or cliche(A lot of em do have that good ol SHRED solo somewhere in the middle thats cool haha). Ya know? I've never liked that perception of heavy. It creates a lot of corny ass bands that think they have to follow a formula to be considered heavy.

Asta!!

Shizukana 11-23-2004 05:57 AM

Tons of Staind stuff... including Epiphany, Outside, Excess Baggage, Zoe Jane... I guess that's the really toned down stuff... you could always figure in It's Been Awhile, So Far Away, Me, Home, etc too I guess...

Pantera - Planet Caravan
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
311 - Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm... excellent one...
311 - Seems Uncertain
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
Cold - Bleed
A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras
Linkin Park - My December

monkeydriven 11-23-2004 06:14 AM

Foo Fighters - Exhausted
Nirvana - Rape Me

awesome songs

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned iced earth, they have some soft ballads which are pretty out of place for a thrash/power metal band. my favourite is A Question of Heaven

Blind guardian has some as well

and i dont think ive seen iron maiden's Fear of the Dark or Blood Brothers on the list yet

THE HIDDEN TRACK ON THE ALBUM "EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SILENCE," AFTER THE SONG "MOTEL OF THE WHITE LOCUST"

If you haven't already, you might want to check out "Midwestern Stylings" by the same band. There's 3 different versions of it and the live version is by far, the most "moving" of them all.

I'll add my own list later.
