xm satellite radio

I've been looking into purchasing a Delphi WiFi unit equipped XM satellite radio. I was just wondering if anyone here has this or a similar gadget, or an opinion on the satellite service. Thanks for the help guys!

a friend of mine got it for xmas, and from what she said she loves it.

Only time it has troubles is if you in a tunnel, or a garage.

I setup a Sirius system for my girlfriend's dad for christmas. It was pretty cool and had pretty much the same (if not similar) channels as XM did.

Reception wasn't too great tho, but I attribute that to their house being in MI. Cell phone reception for me isn't that great there sometimes.

Also, I heard Sirius might be going out of business? Someone else might have more info about that and how it might/will affect customers.

XM is really nice, I got a new CD player installed in my car, and it supported XM. I figured what the hell, I'd give it a try. Now I absolutely love it, commercial free radio is awesome (Not all of the stations are commercial free).

I was wondering about that, Omega. I mean all talk radio shows have breaks, I was wondering what they did in that space. Anyway, thanks for the advice, guys, I should have mine in by the end of the week.

I don't think this is true. I think that Sirius will be the one to survive. They just signed a 7 year exclusive contract with the NFL to broadcast the games on Sirius. Their system is also FAR more advanced than that of XM.

And no, I don't work for Sirius.

Its the new trend. In the next year or two satellite radio will be sold in new autos with a prepaid subscription. I know for sure BMW will be offering Sirius in their new cars.

UPDATE: I got my XM put in my car this morning, and it kicks total ass! Its the coolest thing I've gotten since TiVo. Thanks for the advice J.V.R.A., I went ahead and popped for the fm modulator, its alot better than the cigarette lighter thing. Anyway, if anyone else is contemplating xm, I recommend it totally.

Yep, XM rocks. I love driving around with CD quality radio. I sometimes try to make excuses to go somewhere just so I can use it, heh.

XM is not even close to CD quality audio. It's all 128k MP3 format. For SQ, Sirius is where its at, 98% of full CD audio.

Hey, does anyone know if you can get a lifetime subscription for a flat fee to either XM or Sirius? I don't relish another monthly bill.

You can set your suscription cycle with XM to only be billed once a year, but they don't offer a lifetime subscription to my knowledge. I don't know anything about Sirius.

My uncle got it and it was really nice, I would get it but I hate the radio. I have an Mp3 CD player which does just fine for me.
