I like every cover I've ever heard of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper", as well as Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On You".
Also, I've been looking for a good cover of "Paint It Black". I know there's a good one out there somewhere...

One cover I can't stand is Metallica's version of Nick Cave's "Loverman." Garage Inc. was, for the most part, a pretty solid slew of covers, but "Loverman" really pisses me off.
Another cover that's pretty horrible is off the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. Some talentless f--k named Andru Donalds covered Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby." Just the thought of this Blues Travellerish cover coupled with Minnie Driver's acting makes me want to cut someone. Anyhow, there are some really good covers out there, too. I really dig Cash's version of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus." Oh, and we can't forget Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower." Covers are always a touchy subject, and usually mirror how talented the band performing them is. William Shatner and Andru Donalds are examples of how pitiful covers can be from the talentless. |
