Where to buy Used Vinyl in your area

Posting from the NYC Tri-State Area.

I want to know where I can find used vinyl.

Specifically:
Disco
R&B/Soul
Reggae

Flea markets?
Salvation Army??

Please share any info.

Garage sales can be an excellent source of vinyl. I know in my town you can't throw a rock without hitting a used record store, but since I'm not in the NY area, those stores wouldn't be of any help to you.
If you're looking for specific albums, I'd wager that you could probably find stuff on EBay.

There is a place on Jones St. in the Village, I think it's called Strider Records. I'm not sure what content they have though. It's down the block from Record Runner (which has records, but not the kind you're looking for).

There's a great store in Princeton -- The Princeton Record Exchange, thousands of dollar records and great other stuff. Highly recommended....

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but I've found some great vinyl on eBay.

There are several small used-music shops around me that sell vinyl.

Thanks people. I have been on Ebay for years.Maybe I should have been more specific...I AM GOING BROKE (not really) paying collectors prices. I am looking for the 12 inch groove platter OASIS.

I have noted the "PRINCETON RECORD EXCHANGE" and will look into visiting them.

Go to www.dogpile.com and type in "used vinyl records" in the search engine. You'll get tons of site's. As far as music store's, I have two here in Rochester, NY. The Record Archive, and The House of Guitars. And yes... I've found some real treasures at garage sales.

unfortunately there is only 2-3 here in townsville, australia. i have brought off the net from other websites and have gotten some good stuff through them...

and second hand stores (although mentioned) are always a good place to look. may take a while but you wont regret it.

Everybody's Records in Cincinnati is the best place in Ohio, and one of the best places in the country that I've been to

druptight 12-11-2003 04:49 PM

there's two great websites for rare vinyl that i know of that have literally everything. prices can range because the websites are just loads and loads of international record stores attached to a web search engine. they are:

www.musicstack.com

and

www.gemm.com

give em a try. i'm in boston too, but the good ones have really been said already!!

If you're looking for music and you're willing to drive halfway into CT, check out Phoenix Records in Waterbury. They have everything.

I wish I could find a good store in NC. They won't even let you listen to rec's before you buy them. How bogus is that. I'm a dj so I want to find a place I can listen/buy electronic, drum&bass, and breaks... There are a couple stores in Raleigh but they won't let you listen and they have a very limited selection.

During the summer months on weekends there are usually a few flea markets going on. One in the 20s on 6th Ave another on Avenue A around 10 or so. I'm not sure if they run during the winter or not. The last time I went to them I saw a couple people with huge boxes of records for sale. Most were pretty cheap. I believe I've also seen a record store in St. Marks Pl. but I'm not completely certain about that.
