Good songs to study to?
Trying to find some nice songs where i can listen to them but also kind of zone them out at the same time, so i can concentrate on studying.
Any suggestions? Something mellow, for example right now im listening to some coldplay |
anything by Einsteurzende Neubauten (sp?)
|
You may try classic Beethoven, Bach, or some of the string music off one of the Lord of the Rings soundtracks. I was going to suggest Coldplay, but you've got that covered. :)
You know, I was looking for some more mellow music myself... |
Holst, Debussy
|
I like listening to sandstorm and other assorted techo, they keep me focused and moving.
|
I listen to all sorts of stuff when i study...
smashing pumpkins, especially "adore" - great CD for study, background noise, or going to sleep matchbox 20 - "yourself or someone like you" radiohead - "pablo honey" cake - "prolonging the magic" stroke 9 everclear |
hmmm...
over the rhine, good dog bad dog James Taylor, james taylor barenaked ladies, gordon a few of my studying favorites |
Pop music. I can easily ignore it. Hillary Duff, Britney, Christina, NSync, etc.

Depends on the studying.
If it is deep comprehension, then something slow and wordless and/or in a language I can't understand. Mahler, Debussy, Gregorian Chants, Ravel, Cocteau Twins, Sigur Ros, Miles Davis, etc. If it is memorization or problem solving then something with more pick-up. Grooverider, Goldie, Shiner, Sparta, Soundgarden, etc. For some reason, I can always listen to Lift To Experience - The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads when I'm studying. That album just settles right in for me just right. And I'm glad Christmas is coming up, I like listening to it more around Christmas time, esp. when it is snowing. |
if it's art or anything creative i like bjork, radiohead, tori amos or sparta, etc.
if it's reading/studying something like yo-yo ma, stravinksky's firebird suite, eastern music, nick drake, or some jazz. |
i've heard that listening to mozart makes you smarter. something about his orchestrations fire up brain cells.

Music in foreign languages is a good idea if you want a cool beat but need the lyric concentration for studying. I've got a small collection of german, swiss, and italian music that works for me.

During the last 3 and 1/2 years of college, i have listened to a variety of music while studying... as a freshmen i most often listened to Hip hop... but withing the last year I have turned to only a few Groups....
Coldplay - just download all there songs, they are ALL great! Radiohead - something about there music just free's my mind and opens it up a bit, GREAT MUSIC Sublime - the best rock/ska to jam with, Mostly used during my calculus classes Bob Marley - when i am mellowed out and/or Reading Classic Rock - Eagles mostly and a ton others.... too many to list... |
I always try and pick music that either
a) has no lyrics (most techno, classical, etc) b) has lyrics in another language c) isn't slow (slow = sleep = no study) Anytime there is a song that I can sing, the lyirics get stuck in my head and I can't study. |
I highly reccomend Radiohead. Works wonders for me when I am studying.
There is another small band called Pound that had one CD a long time ago that you could get at best buy for 9.99...fantastic study music and I loved the CD. A search on amazon.com looks like it might not be available... :( I find this great to study too if you can get it as well. |

the best pre-exam music i found was Muse. Butterflies and Hurricanes i listened to before walking into each one of my finals. don't, let yourself down don't let yourself go your last chance has arrived best, you've got to be the best you've got to change the world and you use this chance to be heard your time is now got me pumped and psyched for each of my exams, and in the right mental mood. Radiohead, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins all get thumbs up for studying though. Strung Out on OK Computer and Third Eye Open - A Strings tribute to Tool are both EXCELLENT albums to study to. classical feel but with music that keeps you in line. |
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
|
I listen to Coldplay or Ben Folds.
|
I like to listen to music by Hans Zimmer while I'm working - the Gladiator, The Rock and Black Hawk Down soundtracks all kick major ass, but aren't too distracting.
