Evanescence

I'm a huge Linkin Park and I dig the sound of Evanescence, at least the two singles I have heard so far. Both groups are both in the same genre (angsty, goth nu metal, etc) and I was wondering if anyone had a strong opinion on the album because I'm considering picking up a copy. Thanks in advance.

PS. Yes, I understand a lot of people hate this type of music, so please spare the flames. Thanks ;P

How does Evanescence sound like Linkin Park (other than that awful rendention of Bring Me To Life. get a demo w/o Paul McCoy. Much better.)

Evanescence has been a nonstop listen for me so much in the past 6 months. I have been able to relate a lot to the music and the demos are even more amazing than their actual big label release.

They are awesome live too. Amy Lee rocks.

Amy Lee is also fuckin hot. They get a lot of shit in their hometown I believe cause people call them a rip off of a band called Lacuna Coil or something like that and another band. I heard all of them to hear the similarity and the only similarity between them and Lacuna is that they both have a female frontman...which I think is silly.

If you like the two singles that you have heard, you will "like" the rest of the album. It is a good sound overall, but it is very homogenous. You probably couldn't name a specific song if you needle-dropped it.

I'm hoping they expand their horizons in their next album.

Before I got a hold of the new A Perfect Circle album, I thought the Evanescence album was the best I'd heard in over a year. Spend the $12 or so, and pick it up!

Damn crappy music...
I tell ya.. totally ripped of Lacuna Coil, then made it pop.

Sorry.. lemme make this a useful post by SUGGESTING the music of Lacuna Coil. More metal, less pop, less angst, less drama.

the album's overproduced, but generally good. i heard the demo of "Bring Me To Life" a while ago, and have to agree that it sounded much better before the producer got his hands on it. (any keywords to use to search for the demo on Kazaa? i've tried a bit to find it, but haven't had any success)

there's a number of piano ballads on the album, almost a tori amos feel.

though if you like linkin park, there's no saying what you may think is good!

I actually kinda like 30 seconds a lot. Ol Leto really surprized me there. I think once they perfect their sound and bring it all together they'll be pretty damn good. When the video for Capricorn came out I thought well this is better than the crap I've been seeing lately....kept watchin it and grew to love it.

there's really no reason to discount a group simply because they get radio play. i like plenty of bands that have no chance at getting air-time, but if i restricted myself to them... well, i'd be an elitist & narrow-minded snob.

well put. I really can't understand anyone's rationale behind not liking a group simply because you can tune into the radio and hear their songs...

Early last month, Evanescence headed for Lisbon, Portugal, with spirits soaring. They were stoked about their successful European tour and excited to shoot a video for "My Immortal" in Barcelona on October 10. About two weeks later the bubble burst.

On the morning of an October 24 show in Berlin, guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody packed up his gear in a huff and flew home, the band's manager said without giving a reason for the departure. Moody co-founded the band with singer Amy Lee in the late '90s.

Shortly after Moody split, Lee told the British magazine Rock Sound,"You don't do that to your band. You wouldn't do that to your friends or your family. You don't do that to anyone."

Moody's future with Evanescence is unclear, their manager said, and the band has continued its tour with second guitarist John LeCompt handling all six-string duties.

It wasn't the first time this year Moody had problems in Deutschland. In June the group canceled a string of German shows because the guitarist fell ill. Lee first spoke about Moody's departure at a concert last week in Manchester, England. "Ben flew home, but we didn't want to let it cancel the tour again," she said, according to Rock Sound.

Evanescence's European tour runs through November 10 in London. The band will launch a North American tour on November 19 in Mexico City. Dates run through December 14 in Mississauga, Ontario. Three weeks later, the band will begin a tour of New Zealand, Australia and Japan.
Looks like the band is on the rocks :-(

Unfortunately they'll just get replacements, even if it means Amy Lee remains the only original member of Evanescence, thing is, no-one gives a shit about who the other band-members are.

Oh, I'm not simply discounting them ONLY because they get radio-play. "Radio-friendly rock" is a sound that has become homogenous. ...and boring. Tune into your local student-run college radio station. You will hear rock music that is interesting and not a Clear Channel-perscribed offering.

that's just my point. most people who think they're "underground" label most or all music on a clear-channel station "radio-friendly". i liken it to a person saying that all people from a certain different race look alike. well, they do, but only if you don't bother to examine the the features that make each person distinct.

clear channel certainly sucks a nut, but sometimes they allow something semi-decent through the door. i try to not be too jaded so that i can appreciate when that does happen.

The slow songs are the best. My Immortal rocks (well, the original does. The new version they released to radio with the band piping in towards the end STINKS).

I enjoyed the single (Bring me to life I think it is?) for 3 listens. Now any time I even begin to hear it I cringe. I guess it's just not my type of music. It's also seriously overplayed on the radio -- but that's not the band's fault.

I own the album and yeah it does kinda sound repetitive. The slow songs are prop my least favorite on the album. If you have kazaa and you want to hear a decent slow song by evanesence download "anywhere" I don't know where it s from but its not on the fallen cd

O and I saw some pics of Amy lee and the band at some radio gig in book store or something and she looks fat. The only other pics I have seen of her have her wearing loose clothes or have the pics distorted so her body isn't clear. I would be happy if somone could prove me wrong thouh, cause I love her voice

Finally got this CD, didn't think it sounded much like Linkin Park except some of beats on one of the tracks. She's got an awesome voice, but I think it would probably be better suited in a different genre.

I've been listening to Evanescense since they first came out with their first single, got the CD in June and I really like. I listen to it a lot. I can't really listen to Bring Me to Life much though cause it is so overplayed, but every now and then it brings back some good memories! The rest of the CD is great.
