Henry Rollins
Most people have an opinon on this guy. I never got into his music too much, but his spoken word is quite funny. I do admire the guys attitude toward life in many ways. He takes action and speaks his mind as much as possible. There is a certain honesty to him. What are your thoughts?

I've never been able to find one of his spoken word albums to download so most of what I have is from Rollins Band. Great CD from 10 years ago.
He seems pretty intelligent from live interviews/stand up I've seen him do. -alec |
Big fan of Henry Rollins here. I like his music and his spoken word stuff. Include his poetry and acting work and you can almost consider him a multimedia genius (maybe that a little too much, but he still kicks ass!). I was first attracted to his spoken word stuff and then brancehd out from there, even though I'd heard "Liar" when it came out I never really heard much Rollins Band stuff. But, now that I've gotten into his ohter stuff, it makes his spoken word stuff even better.
Plus, I'm a big TOOL fan and loved the song "Bottom" from the Undertow album with his cameo. |
Rollins, what you see is what you get. He's an awesome musician, and poet, etc... He sort of has a midas touch with everything he's done, but general acceptance by the masses is not there. I've been buying everything he's done, little by little, and have not been let down one bit.

I don't really like Rollins band, but the truth is that I've never really listened to it, I guess I'm too much of a fan of Black Flag and that's how I see him. His spoken word is awesome I recomend it to anyone, some of that stuff has let me in tears its so funny. I wonder why not a lot of people have posted about Black Flag, seems to me that that's where most people would know him from...
|
Many people here may know him best as the angry Reagan hater from the VH1 - I love the 80s series (and sequel) - that of the guy in the Beavis and Butthead video dressed up like superman. I really like most of the RB stuff he's put out.

I've never liked his music,
but I do like his mind and words. Very intelligent man. |
Here is a link to a pretty good Henry Rollins interview. It is about 5 years old, but is pretty good with info up until that point. I'd post the interview, but it's kinda long.

Yeah, i definately respect the man. I mean he started of with little fold and staple leaflets and working at an ice cream shop- to being who and where he is today. He also says what he thinks. I heard him on Stern saying how its his theory that you get cancer if you repress those angry emotions. My girlfriend thinks he's a little immature and has threatened to throw his music (aswell as my TISM) tapes out the window of my car.

Rollins is the man. Black flag, rollins band, spoken word, or books...love it all.
|
I'm not a fan of his music, but I love all of the Spoken Word stuff I have heard. He isn't afraid to say what's on his mind, and I admire him for that.
|
:( I was supposed to go see Rollins perform spoken word on my b-day(feb. 6) but up here in New England we had a shitty-ass snow/rain/ice storm that day and feared for my life when I was driving around my school. I wasn't up for driving on the highway to the T station. I was surprised it wasnt canceled...the highway was traveling at 40mph and there were over 200 accidents alone on the Pike. But alas...now I have to wait for him to come around again and hope for better weather.

I saw him perform live with his band twice. The second time I saw him (this was the early 90s, I'm talking about) tour was when he did a small stint with Sausage- which was a side project that Les Claypool from Primus did. Not too bad. Actually met Rollins & Claypool both that night. Got them both to sign my old black flag tshirt. :)
I'm more of a spoken word fan with him, though. I enjoy his mix of humor and intensity. I've seen him do spoken word about oh, 4 times. Never a dissapointment. |
I have to say, I've not heard much of his music, or indeed any of his spoken word stuff, but I've always had a kind of arm's length respect for him. He comes across as articulate and his opinions are clearly considered.
|
I've always been a big fan of Black Flag. As the years pass, my musical horizon broadens. I still have respect for HR. He tells it like it is, I'm with that.
|
I like him from what i've seen, just need to get out get some of his stuff to listen to. I'm espically interested in his spoken word pieces.

no deposit...
no return... |
Henry Rollins is coming to Milwaukee to do a spoken word show. I was thinking of attending it...and I think now, I just might.
I have always had a sense of awe when watching him. He has an interesting life and what he has done with it...amazing to me. Plus, I think he is a very attractive man. ;) |
I saw one of his spoken word shows live and it was the funniest thing I have seen in a long long time. no stop laughing for close to three hours. My face was sore from the constant smiling/laughing.
[edit] also must say the rollins band are also worth checking out. |
I got into Rollins Band when i think i was about 15. That was a bit after his Black Flag days though, and to tell the truth ive not heard any of it. I know i should as ive heard a lot about it.
I enjoy reading his boks and listening to his spoken word, Im yet to see him in spoken word as the 3 times he has come to Australia ihave been out of town or something. I have seen Rollins Band in concert though and it was fantastic. one of the best shows i have seen I think i will make an effort to get some Black Flag |
Certainly like his music but haven't heard much of his spoken word stuff. He does seem to have an opinion on most things and doesn't mind sharing it.
|
I'm more of a fan of the spoken word stuff, but I like the music, too. The funniest thing he's ever done IMHO is something called Eric the Pilot. I've actually had the opportunity to talk to him on a couple of occasions. He's a pretty nice guy.
