Sarah Vaughan!
Ella Fitzgerald is a close, close second because I'd love to have infallible intonation, but Sarah Vaughan's range is amazing AND she scats like a horn player blows. Gotta love that edge. Add Billie Holiday's rasp and you'd have a voice made in heaven.

And call me crazy, but I'd like to be able to sing like Davey Havok, lead singer of AFI. To sing so pretty sometimes, and just scream your lungs off at other times.

Woodie Guthrie. You don't realise how difficult it is until you try.

Hmm. Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, or Chris Cornell for pure range and technique. Louis Armstrong or Tom Waits for personal preference (and I am damn close on the latter.)

Roger Waters. Perhaps he doesn't have the classic vocal talent that others in his own band and throughout the rock world have, but the raw emotion and tones he brings are unique. He's an aquired taste for many, but I think we can all agree that ONLY he can sing his music the way it has to be sung. When the post-Waters Floyd tries it, it doesn't sound right at all.
Lou Reed, as well. Who else but he and Bob Dylan can get away with basically talking rythmically? -Mikey |

Right on Jadey, I'd give anything to be able to hang in there like Ed Kowalcyk of LIVE. Dude's the real deal. I think he writes a lot of his stuff, too. At least he used to.. Haven't checked the jackets on Birds of Prey and the one before that. I'm still deep into their earlier stuff. Awesome in concert. He must be able to hit several octaves.
