Help me find new, good music?

My playlist is getting to be a bore. I can rarely find anything I like now days, do to the fact that I'm a hermit and MTV/VH1 don't play good stuff very often.
I've never had any luck finding new things, anyone who suggests anything to me is always wrong as hell. But there HAS to be some music enthusists here, plus some non-American people who have a broader pallete that us American's are rarely exposed to. So, I'm going plop down a list of the best stuff on my playlist, explain what aspects of the songs I like, if I can, and hope to crap you guys can help me out here.

48. They Might Be Giants - Particle Man (1:59)

Numbers 2, 5, 6, 7, 20 - 23, 33, 34. "Melodic Metal"
It's heavy metal, I guess, but with some melody to it. Nightwish has that opera like singer who I love. I also like the use of the double bass drums. I DO NOT like silly sounding voices and screaming. Much of these songs have piano, violen, or in number 2, chello in them. Very big part of why I like them.

Numbers 1, 4, 12 - 15, 47, 48. "Punk? Alternative? What is this stuff?"
Flukes to the long time progression of my music taste. I love these songs even though they don't fit into the long path of heavier and heavier stuff. I love the upbeatness of them. I have no idea what these songs should be classified as.

Numbers 8, 16, 17, 18, 19, 25 - 32, 41 - 45. "Misc Heavey"
Most of these are rather heavy or tend towards that direction, but some of them have techno or rap mixed in, but not too much. I also like CKY and SOaD but they have gotten so old to me that I didn't want to even include them in the list.

Numbers 3, 9, 24. "Techno Blah"
Just a few Techno songs I have found and liked over the years. I can't explain what parts I like about them.

Garbage and No Doubt. "To lazy to get the numbers"
Yea... I love Shirly and Gwen's voices. Love them. Love their style too.

That's all. If you people can think of anything I might like I would really apreciate any suggestions. Or, use this list to find songs you might like if you have similar tastes as I do. That Dope song reminds me so much of Marilyn Manson it's spooky.

uh if you like heavy stuff but with melody ... i would suggest poison the well. if your in to them check out trustkill records (trustkill.com) and see if you like the bands on that label. PTW just keeps getting better in my opinion. they're new album you come before you is fantastic, but i would reccomend you start on their first album, "the opposite of december" then to "tear from the red" then check out you come before you.

do you mean new music as in recent releases, or New-to-you, from any era?

here are some to try out:
vangelis, yoko kanno, jean-michel jarre, joe satriani, pink floyd, radiohead, cure, cult, nine inch nails, bon jovi, black tape for a blue girl.

that's some i can think of for now. some variety there hope you can find something to like.

Here's some more:

Satyricon, Enslavement of Beauty, the Gathering, Dark Tranquility, Blind Guardian, Emperor, Finntroll (well worth checking out, finnish metal-polka or something like that), Ayreon, Star One (these two are also worth your time).

If you want something more syntish then maybe Laibach might be something for you. Nato and Jesus Christ Superstar are two good albums to check out.

As you mentioned that you don't like "silly sounding voices and screaming" I suppose Cradle of Filth might not be your cup of tea but these songs are too good not to give a try: No Time To Cry, The Forest Whispers My Name, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Queen Of Winter Throned and Hell Awaits.

Hope you find some new stuff that you like, I know how horrible it is when you realize that you've grown bored with everything you have at the moment and really need to find something new but don't know where to start looking.

I mean new -to-me new.
Thanks guys. This will take me forever to go through all these bands, but hopefully it will be bountyful.

As a sidenote, I rarely like anything that's on the radio or TV. It's sort of weird... maybe a subconsious desire to be non mainstream.

glassjaw, botch, dream theater and dillinger escape plan

but i second shadows fall, poison the well and from autumn to ashes!

i'm not good with categorizing music in their subgenres but glassjaw, botch and dillinger would be considered hardcore i guess. botch and dillinger are really technical "math metal" and dream theater is technical but melodic goodness as welll and great vocals.

if you want the best in music, delivered to you in deliscious, non-commercial helpings, I really can't think of anything better than KEXP. It's a local station here in Seattle, but is the most listened to station in the world. It plays EVERYTHING. Much of what you have listed, but much more stuff that will broaden your horizons to incredible new worlds of music!

http://www.kexp.org

I'll grant, it may not be as hard as you'd like all the time... but if you listed to it during different times of the day, or check out the archives, you're bound to find stuff that blows you away... and the DJs are SO COOL, you can call them up anytime, chat, and they'll suggest great music for you...

oh... and if you're interested in more electronic music... and you seem to like it really hard with melody.. http://philosomatika.com

Thanks PulpMind... I'd LOVE to listen to that station, but, due the the fact that my school has a goofed up network I can't I'm going to try and get help with it here too, as soon as I use the little boy's room I'm gonna post about it.

Mars Volta has made it difficult for me to enjoy most radio music. I've listened to a lot of music in my time, and I've never heard anything quite like this. I suggest you give them a try, starting with "Drunkship of Lanterns."

And I also love the last two songs on the list, as well as the TV show they appeared on.
