Learning how to sing
Is there any site that can give instruction on how to sing (as in project for volume)? I can sing to key, except my range isn't great and cannot project at all. So when I sing while playing guitar, you can barely hear me singing. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I have the same problems. It's because we aren't using our diaphram when we sing and we're singing solely out of our throats which if you try and project loudly would shred your throat so you automatically and subconciously restrain yourself. Basically to sing from your diaphram you have to just let it go and not hold the note in your throat. If you can feel it down in your gut then that means you're doing it correctly. Part of it has to do with breath control. To properly sing from your diaphram you have to force it down there your stomach should slowly suck inward as you sing higher and higher. Thats my problem you have to exhale in a manner that sucks your stomach back up against your ribs so you can really feel it and that will help with projection. It's impossible to explain it with words though you'd need to have a vocal coach to demonstrate it for you and run you through techniques. Another thing that could be your problem is 1. Maybe you just don't have a loud & powerful voice (which I doubt) or 2. Your guitar is too loud and your mic is too low or 3. You do have a powerful voice you just don't have enough confidence in your own vocals to just sing out (also pretty doubtful but I've seen it alot regardless). You should check those out first and if it's not that I recomend seeing a vocal coach to help you out. There's actually video's too that go through vocal coaching techniques one I've heard about is the Doc Holiday one though I don't know how good & effective it is though. He's worked with a lot of good voices like Eric Benet who's awesome and Tyrese who's okay and Britney who.....well all the vocal lessons in the world won't help her cause she just flat out can't sing. But uh yeah like I said one a those things ya can only get help with through a vocal coach which could probably be costly but hey man good luck with that anyway hope things work out dude.

Thanx man I dunno if I sounded like I knew what I was talking about too much but I've had a tiny bit of vocal training from an old man that was in our choir at college. He thought I had a great voice and offered the lessons for free so that was fortunate. He recomended singing in front of a mirror and watching your torso as you sing to be sure if you're executing it correctly and stand up straight. I still have trouble doing it though. I'm pretty sure thats just an extremely tiny part of it all too.
