Rock Group Europe Plan Comeback
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3162506.stm
Last Updated: Friday, 3 October, 2003, 16:24 GMT 17:24 UK Rock Group Europe Plan Comeback Swedish rock band Europe are planning a return to the music scene with a new album and world tour. The 1980s outfit, most famous for their anthem The Final Countdown, spilt up in 1992 after 10 years of success. Europe sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and The Final Countdown was number one in 25 countries in 1986. Lead singer Joey Tempest described their new material as "fresh and hard but still with the typical Europe melodies in focus." Europe reunited temporarily for a millennium concert in Stockholm on New Year's Eve in 1999. Revival The band have talked about getting back together for some time and are currently recording some new material. "To finally once again meet our fans throughout the world feels incredibly inspiring, it's them that made us what we are today," said bass player John Leven. Rock music is enjoying a renaissance at the moment after years of playing second fiddle to dance music. According to the British Phonographic Institute's figures, in 2002 rock records outsold pop, buoyed by records from acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queens of the Stone Age. Flamboyant British band The Darkness have become one of the most talked about bands of the year, with their 1980s-style stadium rock and outrageous outfits. |

I went to see them on the final countdown tour in London, my girlfriend at the time loved them, mind you everybodys girlfriend liked them. Anyway, they knocked seven shades of shit out of Bon Jovi, who ruled the world at the time. So I say good on em!

I saw those guys open for Def Leppard in the summer of 1988--ah, to be that young and naive again....
A Polish friend of mine tells a great story about rocking out to Europe with her friends, only to realize that she'd completely dented her parents' coffee table with faux drumsticks. I guess the Europe pandemic struck all parts of the Western world. |

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I really liked them. Does anyone else remember "Cherokee"?
This band from Scandinavia, named europe was singing a nonsensical song about American Indians, shot a video in Arizona or somewhere with this hollywood Indian all dressed in white that matched the lead singer-also dressed in all white. screaming- "Cher-o-Kee!! Ridin' on the trail of tee-heeerrs!! Yeeeaaahh-hhaaaaa!" great stuff. |
