Modern Hendrix Killers.

Im listening to a Hendrix solo from woodstock & I gotta say that he fucking rocks! Its astounding, It sounds like the guitar is posessed, like its talking, Im speechless.
Do any of you know of a guitarist that can/could play like him? If you could point me in the right direction Id be well chuffed. A solo would be great but Ill look into everything.

Thanks.

hendrix has been an influence on SOOOO many guitarists. some years back there was an album of Hendrix covers by various bands.... Stone Free, including a disappointing rendition of Purple Haze (?) by the Cure.

Stevie Ray Vaughan has inflections of Hendrix, as does Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.

I heard a story that during one of Hendrix's club gigs, Frank Zappa came up on stage and did a perfect imitation of a Hendrix solo, leaving Jimi's jaw on the floor.

my vote is eddie van halen. just try to play a van halen song note for note....its nearly impossible. and to make it harder, he hardly ever plays the same fill twice. suggested listenings, mean streets, hot for teacher, eruption, cathedral ice cream man solo and any live solo you can find.

I don't really like Hendrix, but he was probably the best guitarists ever. Plus, like stated above, everyone was influenced by him.

Yes

I am wearing my bulletproof vest and im entombed in fire-resistant material.

Kirk Hammett.

He is influenced by all different types of guitar playing. While not neccessarily Jimi's type of music, a damn good guitarist.

Kirk is amazing but he is no where near as balanced as Jimi. Many people can play like JImi, the thing that really distingushes him is his sound, its so rough and dirty.

I know there's alot of (undeserved) bashing of hammett's skills floating around the internet, but I really wouldn't put him in here (what's a Hendrix killer anyway?). Kirk can play fast, but his best solos were constructed by Hetfield. When Kirk goes it alone (improv or writing) he easily gets stuck in patterns or simply slams on his wah. maybe he made a concious decision to drop modal playing, but i think in the realm of metal guitar leads, pentatonics don't cut it.

MagPie, if you've never heard Stevie Ray Vaughan's versions of Little Wing and Vodoo Chile, do yourself a favor and check them out.

If you want someone that most resembles Hendrix' wild side (what most people know him for...however he did A LOT before the "experience" i.e. worked with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, James Brown), look no further than...

Vernon Reid

He was the guitarist for Living Colour, (you should own Vivid), but he released a solo album called "Mistaken Identity" in '96. He's a motherfucker...you'll love it!!

Band: Turbonegro
Guitarist: Euroboy (Knut Schreier)

He played regularly in one of Norway's best bands at the age of 14, now he is much older, han he fucking rocks. If you do not have the albums Acopalypse dudes or Scandinavian Leather, download ASAP.

Best band in the world right now.

For starters: the song Age Of Pamparius is the best introduction to Turbonegro you can get, I plead all who read this to give it a try.

PS: don't let the name get to you, nothing racist about them.
