Favorite Pink Floyd Album?
Mine? Animals...Most favorite song from that album, and one of my most fav. songs of all time - Dogs.
What's your fav. There are so many. And so many reasons behind why those songs leave such an impact. I love Dogs, cause I look at it like the way corporate America works. It makes me sick, and to hear a song that addresses it...well, it just makes me feel better. :) |
Gotta go with Wish You Were Here.
While Darkside of the Moon is a (pretty much) undisputed masterpiece, it seems sort of... emotionally vacant at times. Over produced? Possibly, but everything works in context. Animals? I feel as if it's a rather weak cd. While "Dogs" is one of the best Pink Floyd songs ever, I find the rest of the cd to just drag from song to song. The Wall. I'll be honest. I dislike the second half of this record. Nothing of substance or interest minus a few tracks. Move it down to one record, and it's the best cd ever. Wish You Were Here though is such a great blend of things that make Floyd great. Some deep emotion (especially the title track), some amazing musicianship, and not a low spot on the cd. |
Meddle.
Starts with One of these days, ends with Echoes. Unbeatable. |
Gotta go with Dark Side Of The Moon
always a classic |
Ditto on Wish You Were Here. I had alot of trouble choosing between it and Darkside, but in the end it won my favor :)
Favorite song.. oh god, I can't decide. I love them all. Its just such an awesome album. I guess if I was forced to choose at gunpoint, I'd pick the title track, but I might also pick Have a Cigar instead... arghh, decisions decisions.. |
Animals- Have to agree about Dogs.
|
Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time, so this is hard to say. My fav album changes daily.
DSOTM is still the ultimate, so I'll stick with that one. The Wall is maybe 6th or 7th down the list for me behind Wish You Were HEre, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, etc. |
Gotta go with DSOTM.
|
My favourite at the moment is The Final Cut. i think that as a whole album it works very well. For a couple of years recently i would have said that the Division Bell was my favourite- even though it was highly shat upon by everyone. I just really liked the sound of it, even though people were quick to point out the absence of Roger and Gilmour's apparenlty crappy lyrics.
|
My fave would have to be animals
|
It's hard to pick a fav, but I'd have to go with DSOTM! I really like Animals too, but listneing to Dark Side just takes me to a whole different place.
|
not possible to pick a single favorite
but I love all these: The Wall Dark Side of the Moon Animals Wish You Were Here Ummagumma Atom Heart Mother Meddle |
It all depends on the mood...
I love the Wall, but really prefer the movie/tour version of Empty Spaces/What Shall we Do know? Dark Side -- Always a classic WYWH -- makes me cry (lost a loved one...) I've seen Roger Waters four times... really good stuff. Wish I was around (well, old enough) to see the Wall tour in the early 80's. k |
Obscured by Clouds. 7 times out of 10, if I reach for a Pink Floyd album, it's the one I go for. It hasn't got a single one of my favorite floyd songs on it, mind you, but it hangs together better than the rest for me.
|
definetly meddle or animals... they're both uncommercial releases...and contain soundscapes as lustrious as dsotm or the wall...the songs just have more edge and bite especially in animals.
|
Since I've recently re-discoverd my love for Pink Floyd...I'm delving into some of the more obscure records. Piper at the Gates of Dawn, for starters.
Coolest little diddy on there called "Bike". So sweet. :D |
My favourite changes from time to time. It really is too difficult to pick one favourite, but at the moment it's Wish You Were Here. The long instrumental pieces give it an eery atmosphere, it all seems very well thought out and polished. You listen to it and afterwards feel completely satisfied.
|
I grew up worshipping The Wall. Now don't get me wrong, it's an unequaled masterpiece, but after years I have come to accept that Wish You Were Here in the best Floyd album ever. Lots of people have told me they think DSOTM is, but I never saw it. Someone hit the nail right on the head for me when they called it emotionally vacant. I second that, well spotted.

Free Four is one of my all time FAVORITE Floyd tunes. top ten at least. |
The London Philharmonic's version of Floyd songs is pretty good too... I listen on the iPod on long flights.. works great.
|
Hmmm...Just bought Dark Side on SACD and its amazing. Guess it would have to be that one.
|
hmmm animals or DSOTM
They're all pretty damn good though. |
There are some demo-tape MP3's out there of the wall... Interesting stuff...

Yeah, to hear Roger's demo of the Wall on an acoustic is pretty cool. It was intended as a more blues-y tune. I think they should release an album of "unreleased material" which they have never officially done. I like to hear remastered versions of "point Me At The Sky" or some of the Zabriskie Point stuff (even though the soundtrack has recently been remastered and re-released) |
dark side of the moon followed closy by wish you were here
|
wish you were here
|
dark side of the moon ... amazing
|
I have a 4 disc import set called "Total Eclipse" that is basically a Pink Floyd version of the Beatles Anthology. Demos, live tracks, radio appearances, alternate takes.....it's amazing.

Me too! It kicks ass doesn't it! It's amazing to listen to all 4 disks and listen to the transformation the band has made from the beginning. |
I'd have to go with The Wall.
|
Tough call. I'd have to say a tie between Dark Side and WYWH. Both are great in its own regard. Two very different albums, but both are so well engineered. Neither has one bad note on it.
|
Dark Side of the Moon. Because every song is completely unique to the previous. Plus "Money" is just a stellar tune.
|
Musically, The Wall and DSoTM are tied. WYWH is not far behind.
However "Animals" has the most emotional significance to me. |
the only song I know from them is that "we don't need no education..." one, just how many albums are out there?
-not curios enough to spend time googling right now, as I just got off work and have some actual audio work to do- |
The Wall
|
Now this is a hard one, I have them all and like them all for diff reasons.
At the end of the day I guess it has to be Division Bell, as it has personal meaning to me. I guess we each have our own! Technically I like Atom Heart Mother, and commercially Dark Side Of The Moon was brilliant. Oh, and Ummagumma. Oh, and all the others too!!! |
Fun to know.
The Wall was orignThe wall was originally written by waters alone and the band did not find this material especially great, but still managed to turn it into one of the twentieth century’s most famous rock records. And if you don’t already know it….. it’s a the who rip-off. Medley is the best record. |
Its either DSotM or Wish You were Here for me. I can listen to both of them over and over again. I think lyrically, dark side is better, though.
|
Funny how everyone who says The Division Bell has some rationalization or explanation why. Well, guess what--you NEED one! That thing STANK. "Learning to Fly", for God's sake? Give me "What God Wants", if you want to hear a kickin' post-Floyd tune.
It's a close draw for me between Animals, Wish you were Here, and Meddle. The Wall drags badly the second half. It starts to sound like the soundtrack that it is. I like Dark Side, but it's so emotionally chilly, I usually can't listen to the whole thing in one sitting. Not that that's a mistake--it's a brilliant exploration of emotional distance (listen closely to the lyrics on the last song if you have questions about that--"And everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon"). It's just hard to sit through. |
wish you were here.
