Struggling Musician looking for help!!!
Im a guitarist who has been playing for about 4 years. I have 3 guitars, 2 electric, 1 acoustic. A horrible used drum set, and a recently purchased bass guitar which is circulating around the family. My problem is, Im at that point in my music where I think it would be best to start a band of some kind. Im in high school so you would think it would be easy to find someone at my level. It seems, not to be so. Of the kids around my age at my school, only 1 can really play drums. And another has fooled around with a bass. Neither have really played more than tablature or lessons. Ive looked and looked, and can find no one who can sing. My school doesnt have a high school choir so to find someone that way, Id have to try and recruit a 9 year old. Now I havent really looked outside of my school, neighboorhood, and friend network. But I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips or tricks, for finding people at my level. And once more, how to get started. Ive got the room and the equipment to play at my house, I just need the people who play at my level, and are willing to play my music. Help me please!

Put up signs describing what you're looking for around the neighborhood/school/local hangout spots/everywhere.

I'm gonna keep my eye on this post too. I've been wanting to start a band for a long time. Cept I'm a vocalist not a musician. It's freakin hard these days to find someone who's good at guitar that doesn't wanna play "metal" n shit. I can't freakin sing metal. Either that or they wanna front the band themselves. I'm like "Dude ya can't fuckin sing and metal was ruined years ago because of people like you!" I almost got one started a while back but the dudes didn't have the ambition required to set up shop with me and get some shit started. I'm a pretty damn good vocalist and I can also rap like a freakin bastard all conciet asside but I guess it's just a lost cause. When I start up college again I'ma be on the hunt for some freakin musicians. It's Texas so theres bound to be a bunch of em I just gotta freakin look. I saw a flyer up at Hastings and guy was looking for a vocalist ages 9-16, who had a "nice deep voice" and experiance. I'm like what fucking sixteen year old is gonna fit those requirements??! Only seen a few in history. I'd love to take up a few instruments myself too. The ones I wanna try are Guitar, Piano, and the Harmonica. All seem like kick ass instruments to me. Especially Piano...then I could write R&B and soul music too. Good luck with yer endeavor man hope things work out for you.
Asta!!

if you're in a major metropolitan area (or near one), post on craigslist. i've met a few band mates, formed a band, found practice space, bought/sold gear, and advertised shows through them. band's broken up now, but hey, it works anyways. :-)

Depending on what year you are ... i got confident with my playing my senior year and just waited till college. Flyers were everywhere looking for musicians. Mael hit it right on the head. Look and post at local record stores. those are the kind of people you want to play with. not radio kids who want to play all that talentless crap and who dont expose themselves to good music. I was lucky enough to have musically inclined friends so dunno whats its like to search for a band. best of luck to ya.
