Nope, Coverdale added Vai for the next album, "Slip of the Tounge"

The guitarist I was looking for was Adrian Vandenberg. He did most of the solo's on "Whitesnake" and even toured with them, because Coverdale had fired the rest of the band that had played in the studio on that album.

I knew the answer was either Vandenberg or Vai, but couldnt remember which of them played on which album. And something about the way you phrased the question made me think of Vai. As I recall, wasnt Vandenberg uncredited on the "Whitesnake" album, though he then played on the subsequent tour?

Whoa, hold your horses! The reason Vandenberg was not credited on the "Whitesnake" album is that he did not play on it. John Sykes did. Vandenberg was hired for the tour and they went back and re-recorded the solo for "Here I Go Again" so he wouldn't look so stupid in the video pantamiming something that wasn't even him. He stayed on to write the songs for "Slip of the Tongue" but Steve Vai wound up playing on the record. He claims he had a wrist injury that prevented him from recording the album but it's rumored that they were able to get Vai so they did. I usually spend a little time researching my questions first to make sure I have it right.

I went by the fact he was listed on the album as having played on several songs. But, if what you say is true, then I was duped like everyone else. I know for fact he was on the tour, because I saw them in Detroit that summer. I definatley remember being excited about the fact Adrian was with the band and that was part of the reason I went to see them.

Looks like Whitesnake pulled a trick from the KISS bag by listing a person on the album who didn't play. (KISS did that with "Creatures of the Night". Ace was pictured and listed, but never came near the studio. Vinne played most of the tracks.)

I did research it BTW and even Allmusic.com show Adrian as playing on the album even on tracks other that "Here I Go"
