I stopped looking after that... one of the worst lists ever. They're trying to say Kurt Cobain was better than Jeff Beck? HAHAHA

i think Kurt Cobain is great. Kirk Hammet is alright but not better than Tom Morello by a long shot

the right people seem to be on there but you need to cut and paste the list in a different order

Kieth Richards ahead of Carlos Santana is a little sketchy. Im not even going to comment on Jack white being that high. But I do agree with a lot of those, maybe not exactly but in the general area.

16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones

This made me laugh. I guess that versatility is not a criteria. kicking ass seems to be though.

Van Halen #70? Wow. That says a lot for this list.

Speaking of Yngvie....how about Paco Delucia or Al Di Meola?

Not including them on a list of the great guitarists to me means your list is worthless.

Couldn't agree more. The only thing that Rolling Stone magazine is good for anymore (although not as useful as it used to be) was the nice list they published in the back of music to download

Just my two cents.

This List is Horible!! How can Eddie Van Halen not be top 5!

And there are people like Yngvie J. Malmsteen, Steve Vai, George Lynch and even Lita Ford that deserve to be on there before plenty of others.

RS has hit an all-time low with this. How stupid can they get? They are obviously polling four 12-year-old girls and 8 40-something's to get this list. Eddie Van Halen is lower on the list than Lou Reed? WTF? OF course I need to add: where is Rik Emmett? Where is Pat Metheney? What about Wes Montgomery or any historically significant jazz players? What a joke.

Speaking of Yngwie, Delucia, and Dimeola; what about Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine, Steve Morse, John Petrucci, Allan Holdsworth, Paul Gilbert, and not to mention a few killer slide guitarists that rock. Each to their own I guess and opinions vary.

I agree! I also bet that guys like Kenny Wayne Shepard, Craig Chaquico (Jefferson Starship), Steven VanZant and Nils Lofgren(Bruce Springsteen), and Ted Nugent are real proud to be left off the list when guys like Cobain and Johnny Ramone are on it.
C'mon, give me a fuckin' break! Those guys had no finesse!

When it was published in RS, that list was in no particular order. But whether that's true or not, there is absolutely no way you can seriously write a list of the best ever guitarists and not include Steve Vai.

I agree, and with David Gilmour in 80's?!!? My opinion my be clouded by the fact that I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but he's atleast got to be in the top 50!

I agree with ya. Way too many people need to be added to that list and a whole lot of people need to be kicked off. I don't think you could ever get an accurate top 100, but this one is terrible!

How about Steve Morse of the Dixie Dregs?

Steve Vai?

And who exactly is Zoot Horn Rollo of the Magic Band?

I agree with a lot of the selections on this list, but some are just inconceivable. There's probably a reason that I stopped reading Rolling Stone a long time ago.
