Mike Patton
What are your thoughts on this guy?
Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Adult Themes For Voice, Tomahawk, Lovage. I am hard pressed to find others as original, as uncompromising or as completely off their fucking rocker as Patton. Even my closest friends act like they don't know me when I play his music. I get the strange sideways glance and they take a few steps back before asking, "What the fuck are you listening to?" It's like I can only listen to him in private, 'cause no one else gets it, or wants to get it. Of course, that doesn't stop me from driving around, blasting the most obscure, twisted, not-quite-music-but-kind-of stuff I can get my hands on. And smiling politely at the looks I get at the stop light. I know I'm not the only one. |
I think he's great in Faith No More as is the rest of the band (I love Bill Gould's bass playing). Mr. Bungle is... different to say the least. I think there's too much going on in most of the songs. I haven't heard Patton in his other bands yet but I do wish FNM were still around.

Dillinger!

I really loved him in the Lovage album, i wish they would make more music together.. I used to like fiath no more, but other than Epic.. i have no thoughts about that band.

NOTE: If you don't know who they are, DROP EVERYTHING AND GO LISTEN TO SOME RIGHT NOW HOLY JESUS |
Mike Patton is the John Cage of today.
|
He's a very talented singer / writer and has alot of charisma on stage.
|
GENIOUS.
|
Mike is the man - thogh his band (FANTOMAS) gave me tenitus about 3 years ago and I've never forgiven him...
You guys like the Tomahawk stuff? Seems pretty approachable compared to some of his weirder stuff... |
I don't understand anyone who doesn't love Mike Patton. I just don't.
*shakes head* I just don't. |
When Disco Volante came out, there was a good advertisement in some magazine that pretty much describes the album to a T...It goes like this... "If dead serial killers had their own Saturday morning cartoon show, this would be the theme music..." Yeah that said it. How else can you describe it? I tried Pseudo-jazz death speed techno metal, with some klezmar and noise for good measure, but I think I'm missing something. GREAT ALBUM! shit there all great
Has anyone ever heard "Goddamnit, I love America!" ?? It's early Bungle stuff...pretty funky...like pre-Mr. Bungle, the album stuff....Yes Bones...Vlad Drac is the man!! |
I cant even believe the amount of times we've bungled out, sitting in the basement, drinking far to much. Witch of course led to mushrooms, LSD, PCP. and more booze. I think i've listened to his music on repeat for most of a day once or twice. .
|
He's great, FnM were great when they weren't sounding like Roxy Music, and a lot of Mr Bungle was genial. I never really liked all that scatalogical stuff, but otherwise Patton has given me a lot of enjoyment.

AWESOME!!!!
|
Okay I saw an album at the Pawn Shop and it said Mike Patton on the side and it was this album right here
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Same guy? Well if it is do you think I should buy it next time I'm there. The CD's are only like 2 bucks tops I think. Worth it? Asta!! |

You know, John Zorn produced the first Mr. Bungle album... Strangly Disco Volante seemed more Zorn influenced.
|
Fantastic artist! I love most of his stuff, though his solo albums usually leave me shaking my head.
Faith No More is a band i can always listen to, especially angel dust. Mr Bungle is fantastically individual, zany creativity and genius! Seeing Fantomas/Tomahawk/Melvins in Sydney in December, should be fantastic! Mike Patton is one of the greatest musicians of modern years in my opinion. |
Docbungle, I stand corrected.
|
Tomahawk isent his band. The guitarest asked him to join it. You cant go wrong with him though.
What albums have he and Dillinger worked togeather on? A friend of mine told me to listen to Mr. Bungle in 9th grade and i was hooked from then on. |

mike patton is the man! met him. he's totally cool. no other singer can do what he does.... the guy is just so amazing.... a san francisco music newspaper once had an article that said that mike patton's fans are so devout that he'd sell out a show doing renditions of 'air supply' songs... (or something to that effect) totally true.

I bought the Dillinger album and all i can say is intense. |
Did anyone catch the NYC show a few weeks ago of Mike Patton vs. Rahzel of the Roots?
My buddy went and said it was SICK. MP came out all dekked out in crude sound making technology wrapped around his body. Apparently the show was just a noise/beat box battle between the two artist. |
wish i could've seen that!
|
Thats crazy.
Asta!! |
Can't wait for the geek show- december 11...... gonna be mad peoples.
|
Got hooked on Mike Pattion with Faith No More and have never been the same since. Pure, unadulterated genius, and useful for making the norms stand on their heads in confusion.
