WHAT!?!?!

I was wandering around in a music store today, and I decided I needed to get some Black Sabbeth, and some AC/DC.

I go to the general "Pop/Rock" section, and low and behold!! NOTHING!!

I happened to walk past the heavy metal section...and there sits Back in Black...as well as all the other AC/DC albums...and also my Black Sabbeth I was looking for.

Now, that shit is classic rock!! Not heavy metal!! WTF??? Anyone agree?

Come to think of it...I remember a girl doing a report in high school (a year ago) about death metal, and its effect on teens....AC/DC and sabbeth were both mentioned...

Re: WHAT!?!?!

I would consider Black Sabbath, along with Led Zeppelin, the first "heavy metal" bands.

You can hear their influence in a lot, if not most, bands of today. Both of them were so diverse.

I, personally, would consider AC/DC as the GnR of the 70's and 80's. A kick ass Rock and Roll band, but not really Heavy Metal.

I would have to agree with the darkmagnus. In it's day it was Heavy Metal and since Ozzy continues to put out new stuff (although it doesn't really compare to newer metal) it should have it's place in the metal section. Sorta the grandfathers of Metal thing. Just my two pennies

They have so many different variations on metal these days: Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal. . .why don't they just make a Classic metal category. Rock has one!
To me they are all just BMG categories!!

music labelling is horrible these days, its gone from a few genres into hundreds (small exaggeration maybe). i've given up on trying to label bands, i've seen 'heavy metal' bands being labelled as punk, then within punk there's poppunk, emo, punk, etc. too confusing if you ask me..

Zeppelin gets a lot of credit, and deserved, for being in the beginnings of 'heavy' music. When a lot of artists of the time heard Hendrix and Zep, there was a collective, "Oh, so loud doesn't necessarily mean heavy."

AC/DC depends on the album.

I know what you mean. I hate it when stores that sell music group almost everything under "pop/rock".

AC/DC isn't really heavy metal. I can see where it could pass as heavy metal, but it's really just hardcore classic rock n roll.

The Eagles are "classic rock"

AC/DC are "heavy metal"

Does that help?

it'd be good if they just labelled all albums of all types in alphabetical order, because none of these labels really justify any music. Its like pigeon-holing people in real life, it doesn' t really work to well.
So they should have a music section and then just have everything in alphabetical order. They have this setup at a second hand cd store i sometime go to. That said, does it amtter that much? you know what it is.

These bands not only should be under Metal...They are the heart of Metal. They are the bands that started Metal and kept it going, influencing every band that has rocked since.

You got a point Johnny....But for todays metal standards....Both AC/DC and Sabbeth fall a little short in the heavy dept...
