Pink Floyd's noted albums
Now, we all know that when one says the name "Pink Floyd" we get many responses.
Of the positive ones, most people will have either "Dark side of the moon" or "The Wall" come to mind. Now...Which do you think was a better album? Better representation of the band? Mine goes with Dark side of the Moon |

Dark side of the moon felt more like the essence of the band
The Wall seemed too commercialized for me. All wrapped up in a tidy package for sale BTW my fav was Wish You Were Here.

Yea you should have put "Wish You Were Here" in the poll. That one is also part of the "Big 3" of Pink Floyd albums.
BTW I downloaded some of the old Floyd with Syd Barrett and I was suprised by how good it was. It is a lot different than the stuff most people associate with the band. Very melodic and some pretty trippy music. Syd has a very good voice too. The sound of the music kind of reminds me of the Doors in the way the instruments sound, but the singing and ambience is all Floyd. Try these songs out.......... Astronomy Domine See Emily Play Arnold Layne One of These Days Dark Side of the Moon is the quintissential Pink Floyd album and a true classic. You can listen to it all the way through and there are some timeless songs on it. |

This is the ULTIMATE PF incarnation. The original lineup was when the band were at their most experimental and when they were truly on the cutting edge of rock music. Sometimes I like to think what may have come of the band have Syd remained the artistic driving force behind the band for even another 5 years or so. Anyway, back to the question. I think DSOTM is more representative of that incarnation of the band. It was recorded when they were still a "band" rather than a backing group for Roger. The Wall is an amazing work, but it was essentially the work of Roger Waters (though what may be the signature song is a Gilmour piece in essence). All 4 members were heavily involved in the production of DSOTM and the sum of their creative energies resulted in that masterpeice. ![]() |

I personally like the Wall. Has an amazing story plus sooo many good songs... -In the Flesh I & II -THe thin ice -ANother brick in the wall I & II w/ the Greatest days of our lives -MOther -Empty Spaces -Young Lust -One of My turns -Hey you -Is there anybody out there -Comfortably Numb -The show must go one As a whole the rock opera thing is totally badass but these stand out in my mind. P.S. 348Dav One of These Days was written by Mason on the Meddle album.

wow....what a tough decision...I had to go with DSOTM at the end of the day because it is just SO DAMN GOOD.
I love the wall as well, however, I feel that DSOTM has a uniform feel and ambiance to it, as a single piece that The Wall does not. That being said...they are two of my favourite albums ever.

I enjoy listening to DSotM. I have to listen to it all the way through, no point in listening to part of it. As for my favorite Pink Floyd album, it has to be Meddle. Echoes is a damn good song.

Animals is definately my favorite Floyd album.
That being said...Of the two I'd have to go with Dark Side of the Moon. Go check out the Laser Light Show at the Griffith Observatory (I think that's what it's called) in LA and tell me you don't agree ![]() -bear

After seeing the move "The Wall", that album has just meant so much more to me. Sure, DSOTM has some kick-ass tunes, but The Wall simply means much more to me.
edit- I just wanted to see how many of you people who have participated in this have seen the wall movie. |

Shoulda really put a couple of more albums in the poll..
Meddle would have to be my favourite PF album, One of these Days is a great song to get psyched up to, San Tropez, Fearless and Pillow of Winds are nice and mellow, whereas Sheamus is just plain cool (although would be better without the dog) and Echoes is just mindblowing, Gilmour is an unbelievable guitar player. However, as I must decide between The Wall and DSOTM, it's fairly easy for me to pick DSOTM as the better of the two. Why ? It has better flow IMO, all the tracks are cut out of the same cloth and have the same kind of feel to them, whereas The Wall is more erratic. Also I think the quality of music is better on DSOTM, for example Time+Breathe Reprise would beat any song on The Wall.

The Final Cut is my favourite. Waters is a freaking genius. A dark morose, twisted, interesting genius.
