What are your thoughts about Queens of the Stone Age

I truly think they are one of the best bands out right now. They started back in 1998 and they have a distinct and original sound. If you get a chance to see them live go they sound awesome. They just got a new drummer who is able to play all of the beats Dave Grohl played when he guest appeared on their third album.

I like 'em and all. But what really got me curious was when I found (ty kazaa) that they do a Kinks cover, "everybody's gonna be happy". I love that Kinks shit, and I can appreciate when a "heavy" band, or whatever, isn't afraid to mix it up a bit, vary the material, etc. I guess I mean that they don't seem to care too much about the pose & image side (well, to a point) of the genre of music that they fall into, and I dig that. You dig? Good.
Oh, and Josh whats-his-face, the main man, looks like he works for UPS or something. So cool he don't need to look it. Nice.

Amazing musicians, amazing band...and what a f*ing history!!! (Take a look at their Family Tree on the website...it reads like a who's who of heavy metal )

I was lucky enough to see these guys 2 weeks ago...they were damn good (despite the sound problems that plagued the Vfestival)

They do have a crazy history and they sound heavier and better live. If you get a chance listen to the first ands second album which are a little different from the latest one. On a side not the lead singer (Josh Homme) looks like Craig Kilborn.

What was the deal with their "real" drummer anyway? Was he happy just to stand down on a temporary basis while Grohl drummed for an album? Was there any animosity there??

No Kaos your not alone. I saw them about 3 years ago when they had opened up for Smashing Pumpkins in San Diego, they sucked so bad they got boo'd off stage. IMO there hasn't been much improvement.

They kept switching drummers and now they have Joey Castillo, who drummed for Danzig, as their full-time drummer.

I don't get it why people like Queens of the stone age so much. They have some good songs, but most the time they're just so unbelievably boring.

i'd hardly call the queens boring... they have SOME sparse arrangements, but their structures and progressions are always interesting. if you want boring, listen to pink floyd
