Bright Eyes are (is) great... here's a description from AllMusic...

Quote:

Bright Eyes is the musical vehicle of Connor Oberst, a young singer-songwriter from Nebraska, who first attracted the attention of the indie music world in 1994 -- when he was just 14-years old -- as the singer and guitarist for Commander Venus. After releasing two albums, Commander Venus broke up, but not before the band members started their own record label, Saddle Creek. Since then, Saddle Creek has served as the outlet for such bands as Cursive and Lullaby for the Working Class, as well as Oberst's current project, Bright Eyes. Incorporating a rotating line-up of players, Bright Eyes is anchored by Oberst's frayed lyrics and his shivering, unnerving voice. Bright Eyes' first two albums, A Collection of songs written and recorded between 1995-1997 and Letting Off the Happiness were released in 1998. The latter was recorded with help from members of Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal among others. The EP Every Day and Every Night followed in 1999, and in mid-2000 Bright Eyes released the acclaimed Fevers and Mirrors. Oh Holy Fools was issued a year later. Oberst took time to dedicate to his Desaparecidos project before returning to the studio in 2002. Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground was released that summer.

anti fishstick 08-18-2003 09:45 PM

they're too whiny

Tickford 08-19-2003 05:08 AM

I thought you meant Bonnie Tyler........ from the post title.....

PeaceFrog 12-15-2003 04:56 PM

Bright Eyes are spectacular. I've been listening to them a lot lately. Conor Oberst comes across as so tortured. They are whiny at times, but i guess that's just part of the whole emo-ish genre. Besides, sometimes the mood is right for that type of music.

KWSN 12-15-2003 04:59 PM

Yeah i suppose they are a bit whiny but Oberst gets his agression out with Desparecidos.

PeaceFrog 12-15-2003 05:12 PM

Desparecidos are excellent too! I'm glad you mentioned them, it seems as if no one knows about them and everyone only focuses on Bright Eyes.

KWSN 12-15-2003 05:57 PM

amen to that...

I can't stand Bright Eyes. I don't know why, but I can't even finish a single song

Begora21 12-16-2003 05:41 PM

I love Bright Eyes, I can see people thinking he's whiny, but I think the lyrics and emotion are incredible ...

If you guys haven;t heard either, Desparecidos broke up. Don't know if it's temporary or not, but their headline tour is off and the new album is cancelled as well....

"Turn around Bright Eyes, every now and then I fall apart!"

Thought this was a Bonnie Tyler thread....ooops

Commander Venus is pretty fresh too, if you can find any. I managed to convince my friend K. A. Zaa to let me borrow his copy.

The Calendar Hung Itself on Fevers and Mirrors just rocks so much.

i recently saw an artist named Kevin Devine that reminded me of Conor a bit. Check him out if your into Bright Eyes.

LoL I was totally thinking the same thing. Plus when I think of that song I think of the version in Old School lol. I listen to bands like Switchfoot, Finger Eleven, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc. is this band anything along those lines? Any other bands they compare to?
