Metallica Icon
I know it is probably old, but I just downloaded and watched it. What a great show. I really like Metallica's old stuff and some of their new music. Some of the renditions done by the guest bands were right on. I hate to say it but I actually liked Avril Lavigne's version of Fuel. Oh well, I will probably get struck by lightning now....

Haha
Some performances were surprisingly good Sum41 - Really impressed me when theyopened and actually played part of the MoP solo, my jaw hit the floor. The singer could have brushed up on the lyrics, but it was a good performance overall. Snoop Dog - Hilarious. I wish he could have "sung" more of the song Staind - Horrible. I read that at the actual MTV Icon, they messed up and had to try playing Nothing Else MAtters all over again. Sorry guys, but this song is simple to play and sing Korn - Meh. Not good at all. And they're going to put a studio version of One on their next CD too. Tsk tsk. They messed up with the song live, and they shortened it significantly. Most of the song isn't that tough to play. Seriously, folks. Limp Bizkit - I was actually surprised by this performance of Sanitarium. I expected crap, but I got an entertaining version of the song. It wasn't rapped up too much, and it still remained relatively true to the original Avril - Her performance of Fuel was the 2nd best of the night. I wish she had more enthusiasm, but she sung pretty well, and the band played most of the song too (again, they could have played more of it. It's not a real tough song to play) Jim Breuer - No comment. Didn't dig it at all. |

I think that they were probably asked to shorten the songs on purpose for the benefit of television. It really didn't sound like Korn or Avril's band were havign a hard time playing the songs. As for Snoop and Jim Breur, I didn't see their performances. I guess they weren't popular enough to be on Kazaa. The singer from Sum 41 did seem to have a problem singing with his heavy accent or something. Something didn't sound right.
All in all, it was entertaining. Made me in the mood for Metallica. I will have to throw some of their CD's in the car. |

I enjoyed thier collage better. when they came out and did thie own shit. maybe it's just because the rest of the acts weren't great. i just caught the end of staind.
a few things to notice: -Metallica's reaction wasn't wow they're performing our songs really good. it was more like...yup i wrote that...if i was up there it would sound so much better. seriously! look at lars closely next time. you almost see him mouth it. - during the limp performance...the camera was on the new guitarist more then it was on fred. -they made you really wanna give St. Anger a chance... though it sucked

well, of course I thought Metallica was far and away the best act of the night...I actually liked Staind on it. Avril was OK...Korn was good as always...Snoop was funny...Limp Sucked and that was confirmed when they tried playing it on the Summer Sanitarihum tour!!!
But Metallica deserved to be an Icon and proved on that show, with St. Anger and live this summer that they are still the Lords of Metal!!

I didn't catch sum 41's whole performance so i can't comment on it but limp bizkit was by far the best preformance of the night. Korn was a close second and avril's band did a great job with fuel, she just didn't sound right. Staind was....horrid
