Flogging Molly

Just wondering if anyone's ever heard of Flogging Molly. They're an Irish band, with a classic Irish sound that blends with heavy rock. Drunken Lullabies is one of their best ballads; it's featured in Tony Hawk 4 for the PS2.

Anyone else like em? What songs do you reccommend?

World's King 04-22-2003 01:20 AM

Get all you can from these guys.

They one of the best bands out today... fuck that indie-rock shit... It's all about being drunk and Irish.

JumpinJesus 04-22-2003 07:46 PM

They'll play forever live if you let them. Just caught them a few weeks back with Mighty Mighty Bosstones. What an outstanding show.

GSRIDER 04-24-2003 12:15 PM

Speaking of Flogging Molly, any Dropkicks fans here?

I'm not much of a fan anymore. I liked them more when they were a good ol' four piece band, no flute or bag pipes.... errrr.

brandon11983 04-24-2003 07:35 PM

hate em. they were kinda cool before everyone started to listening to them, thinking they were being original for listening to a band that is "underground." sheep.

spankthru 04-24-2003 11:21 PM

i've only heard rebel of the sacred heart, and man is that a good song

sngx1275 04-25-2003 02:39 AM

I don't know, I just happend to have 2 of their albums and some other songs appear on my harddrive after reading this thread :) And really whats the big deal about them? I don't think thier stuff is that great. Now its not bad, I could take hearing them in the background at any drinking establishment, but really I don't think I'll ever just listen to them for the enjoyment.

Oh well, maybe its just not my genre :)

World's King 04-25-2003 12:46 PM

C'mon...

No one ever said they were underground. I really hate the people that say that a band was good only when no one heard of them... Except every other wannabe that says that every fucking day about the same band. You think if they were really underground you would have heard of them... They're from Ireland for Christ sake.

brandon11983 04-25-2003 01:29 PM

the point i was trying to make was that as soon as a band becomes "mainstream," they almost always sell out and change their sound to become rich and famous. i am a bit scorned by this, as it has happened to many of my once favorite bands. they all face a moral question, do we keep our sound, or become rich and famous like we've always wanted...?

colourmeirish 08-22-2003 11:08 PM

actually, only the lead singer is from ireland, everyone over in Ireland has no clue who they are.

but, they rock my freaking world. "every dog has its day" and "if i ever leave this world alive" are just great.

if it were possible, i would marry the entire band

Anyone whos never heard of them, find a friend that has and listen to 'Devil's Dance Floor' Unleashes everyones secret urge to be Irish.

PS: Don't deny you've never had a slight craving.... I'm scottish and I'm man enough to admit I've pondered it. You'll snap to your senses eventually and crave the scotsman within.... all the chicks do :D

If you like Flogging Molly check out some of these other Celtic Punk bands.
Black 47
The Pouges
The Skels
Ballydowse
The Levellers
The Cropdusters

There is nothing like the combination of Irish folk music and hardcore. After all that's what it really is all about. If Metallica can do a cover of 'Whiskey in the Jar' then the real thing is where it's at.

colourmeirish 08-23-2003 09:59 PM

the pouges rock too..

haha, my friends and i refer to flogging molly, as "hardcore hoedown"

i dont like to drink, but everytime i listen to them i just want to go out and buy guiness. good thing i am only 18

a_divine_martyr 08-23-2003 10:05 PM

I wouldn't say Flogging Molly is hardcore. They seem more skate-punk from what I've heard, which, whie isn't my thing, is ok as background music.

anti fishstick 08-24-2003 12:16 AM

they're awesome live. very fun and energetic and feel-good crowd. haha. happy pits!

TheClarkster 08-24-2003 12:53 AM

If they're anything like the Dropkicks, they've gotta be good.
Nothing beats bagpipes blaring in the middle of a punk song.

colourmeirish 08-24-2003 10:26 AM

they are not skate core, if the only place you've heard em is tony hawk, then of course you find them background music... and they are not hardcore. they are a mix of hardcore/punk/irish folk.

haha, and they are super better than murphys.

i went to the american fleadh (and irish festival) and flogging molly and black 47 and a few other bands were there, and it was the fecking best show i have ever been to.

crow_daw 08-24-2003 03:53 PM

I've only just recently heard one song by them, and I don't even know the title, but it was a kickass song.

and they have violin and the....glockenspiel! :D

colourmeirish 08-24-2003 08:44 PM

im happy just thinking about them..

chavos 08-24-2003 09:10 PM

got the albums, the t-shirt. now just to turn 21, and have them come to town.

underground or not, it's quality stuff, and they the lyrics hold their own, which can't be said for a lot of punk/neo-alternative, etc... getting the hard rock doesn't mean you have to listen to drivel in the words...and that's why i love em so.

flamingpeach 08-24-2003 09:24 PM

I saw a floggin molly concert last summer. Tehy're really good, and funny too.

A good song is Salty Dog. Thier music style is an aquired taste, but oh so fun when you get into it.

colourmeirish 08-24-2003 09:30 PM

yea, the guy i was dating like two years ago loved them, and gave me "swagger" and the first time i listened to it, i thought it was pretty annoying.. but, soon after it was love. haha.

and their shows are great even when sober.

Exodus 08-28-2003 12:29 AM

Hell yes!!!! Flogging Molly is what goes on everytime I go to the bar. "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" is an awesome tune! If you like them check out a band called Phoenix. Same kinda vibe.

siryn 08-28-2003 12:40 AM

Hella ya, Flogging Molly. My favorite song is Rebels of the Sacred Heart. I gotta say, their recorded stuff doesn't even rank against their concerts. For a long time their concert was the best I had ever been to. They drink soooooo much Guiness onstage.
