Country Music!
so, who do you like, what do you listen to???
i got country music stuck in my head most of the time. most of them i hear on the radio and get hooked to it. i hate slow country though; they make me sleepy. fast country is my thing. i got "what was i thinking" by alan jackson stuck in my head now. i listen to the song a LOT. |
I don't generally listen to country music, but I heard a great song recently that just stuck with me - "Where I Come From" by Kenny Chesney. Check it out.
|
Guess I'll be the first to beat the "new country sucks my hairy ass" horse to death.
I'm not a huge fan of Country at all, but what I DO like is Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., and a lot of the old rockabilly type stuff that inspired rock n' roll in the early 50's. New Country is no better than top 40 pop music. Completely manufactured by Nashville to sell the most albums to the most rednecks. |
I'm a big Trick Pony fan. Gotta love a party band, if there ever was one. "Pour Me" got me hooked, "On a Night Like This" kept me happy. It helps that Ira, The Marlboro Man, and Heidi can harmonize together. Heidi really does have a strong and recognizable voice. She's hot. ;)
|
I like some country. Martin McBridge and Deana Carter are good. I also love Nickel Creek, but are they really country?
|
I listen to whatever Sean Hannity plays on his radio show. I do have a Garth Brooks greatest hits CD :)
|
When folks say "new country sucks" it's like thinking all rock music sounds like Korn. If all you'd ever heard was the rock music on your local x-station, you'd probably think rock sucks too.
But if you want to get away from "Clear Channel Country" and try something a little more thoughtful (and with fewer lasers), look for Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown Uncle Tupelo Steve Earle The Jayhawks Neko Case etc. etc. etc. Check out: http://www.altcountrytab.com/ Those folks know _way_ too much about new country. |

But, I'm a big fan of classic country - Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, etc. I also like Kenny Chesney (he puts on a great live show), Toby Keith, and Joe Diffie. Allison Krause, Tracy Lawrence, Alan JAckson, Garth, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, George Strait, TRavis TRitt, Jimmy Buffett. Some of my favorite songs right now; Alan Jackson (f. Jimmy Buffett) - It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere Toby Keith (f. Willi Nelson) - Beer For My Horses Brian McComas - 99.9% Sure Darryl Worley - Tennessee River Run MArk Wills - 19 Something Lonestar - Love You Outloud Dierks Bentley - What Was I Thinkin' |
I absolutely LOVE Back Where I Come From by Kenny Chesney too, just because it describes my town to a T. And I live in Tennessee too. So everyone in my town knows every word to that song. I didn't use to like country music, but I got into it because of a girl. And now I like it quite a bit. I think George Strait is the king. I also love Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. My favorite songs at THIS moment include:
George Strait- Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa Joe Nichols- She Only Smokes When She Drinks Clay Walker- A Few Questions Tommy Shein Steiner- What if She's an Angel? Randy Travis-Three Wooden Crosses and my favorite country song of all time is I Get Carried Away by George Strait |

i got it confused with the "where i come from.." by alan jackson |
I never really cared for what people call "country" music today. Any body with an accent, cowboy hat and pick up can be a star...
I do, however, love slow, simple old fashioned country music. Hank Williams was where it was at. The country music Bob Dylan's made is good listening too. |
most modern country does nothing for me, Johnny Cash on the other hand... I could listen to him all day.
|
I realize this is not really constructive, but I just had to put my $0.02 in...
You couldn't pay me to listen to country. You could beat me, whip me, and drag me naked over broken glass, and I still wouldn't listen to it. But hey to each his own. If you like it, cool, but I can't stand it. |
Hank Williams III does an awesome song about the sad state of modern country. Being a Texas boy I hafta admit I do have a secret soft spot for country. George Strait ranks up there right behind Pink Floyd, Zep and Metallica in my books.
|
The only country group I listen to is a very little-known outfit known as Cast Iron Filter. They're incredible, and I encourage everyone to give them a listen
|
It's all about Dwight Yoakam. He kicks ass - as does his guitar player Pete Anderson. I'm seeing him in August here in Boston. I also love Neko Case, the Mavericks (though they broke up) and most artist recordings prior to the entry of "new country". Though I must admit that George Strait really isn't bad at all.
|
discourage inbreeding, ban country music! (bumpersticker) i dont like country.... closet thing is Neil Young
|
some song on the radio at work - "one shot of jose cuervo, two shots of jose cuervo..."
makes me wanna scratch my eyes out |
Cash aside, Country music sucks
|
Johnny Cash is quite possibly the best American vocalist out there. Maybe not in "technical skill", but rather in the emotion that he puts into his voice.
|
Johnny Cash rules in my opinion.......Fav country songs are the following dust on the bottle by david lee murphy and fast as you by dwight yoakham
|
country gets a bad rap. i hate the top 40s country shit, but probably less than i hate regular pop top 40.
nobody ever says, "you couldn't pay me to listen..." to any other kind of music. Except maybe bluegrass or something, but that's similar. everybody desperately wants to separate themselves from hicks in big trucks. |
There seems to be a fair amount of hostility towards country. Specifically "modern" country.
All I can say is that I started out with country, and through it have expanded into rock music, from Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson through CDB through Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR and the Eagles through Springsteen. As for my favorites, gotta go with AJ and Brad Paisley, with Garth Brooks forever being #1. |
The only country artists I can stand to listen to are: Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson.
|
i actually like most American country, and some Aussie country. (this is considered odd where i come from).
right now i´m really getting into Johnny Cash. |
Brooks and Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley
|
Fan of the old country.. I always see an infomercial on TV late at night for the Classic Country Collection.. one of these nights I'm going to order it! hehe
For "new" stuff, love Garth Brooks.. bought his box set.. twice! (First time my mom lost it hehe). |
I like country music too, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Justin Timberlake, Ricky Martin, Faith Hill, Britney Spearks... wait - Faith Hills is country right?
;) |
much bigger fan of Bluesgrass, Bues, and jazz/swing (the older the better generally), but I do like some country songs. Brad Paisely's current song "Celebrity" is hilarious and has a great video, and Paul Brandt's "I Do" from 1996 is a very powerful video IMO for a good song - great wedding song.

If you like Willie and Johnny and Merle, Check out David Allan Coe. Disregard the misconceptions about him, you will probably like his music from 1960 to now. He's a must see in concert!

I completely agree with you. If I hear a country song (not that you hear much in NYC), I change the radio station in a micro second!! To each his own. Thats why everyone has an opinion. Glad |
Well I'm not really into country (make that, I never listen to it). But once I was at the movies and I hear a song by someone. It was pretty catchy, the lyrics were on the lines of:
C'mon people now Smile with your brother Everybody get together Gotta love one another Yeah, I liked that one. And Achey Breaky Heart :p |
[qoute]C'mon people now
Smile with your brother Everybody get together Gotta love one another[/quote] That's not a country song, although Garth Brooks covered it partially on his Chris Gaines album. |
I love old school country
They seemed to have much more meaning in their voice than they do now |
Ive always liked country music, I grew up in rural midwest. I had no choice, cause its the only radio stations we had, but anyways its some good stuff. I wish others would at least give it a chance. I cant say there is any genre of music I hate, I prefer som over others, but I dont hate them.

Country Music is the Most Popular Radio Format in the United States of America
Maybe it's time you gave this music more than cursory attention.
.......................... It's a new record. Nearly 16 million adults 18 to 49 tune into country music each week, making it the most popular radio format in America, according to a new report from Interep, a New York City-based radio advertising sales and marketing firm. The No. 2 format, news/talk/business/sports, reaches about 13 million listeners weekly. The demos are broader than you think and mirror the general population. Seventy one percent of listeners are 18 to 49, the age group that accounts for 65 percent of the U.S. population. Twenty eight percent of listeners earn $75,000 or more, just one percentage point more than U.S. households overall. "Not everyone who listens to country music has a broken-down pickup and lives in a trailer, especially not in New York City," says Jason Steinberg, director of marketing and promotions for Y-107, Hawthorne, New York. The station lost advertisers when it changed from a modern rock format three years ago, but some have returned and are reaching a much larger audience. © 2003, Primedia Business Magazines and Media |
OK so my music collection is wacked out.
I'm a reggae DJ, but i think Hank Williams Sr. and Johnny Cash are amazing!!! Man, they wrote some heavy tunes, that music's got a solid spot deep in my heart.... |
anyone see the clip for the "i love this bar" by toby keith? it's pretty awesome.
|
He tends to do real good videos, and this one is too.

I never listened to that much new country until I got a job as a studio/production engineer at a country station. At work, I had to listen (carefully) for hours on end. First came tolerance, then acceptance, then occasional toe tapping, then before I knew it, I was playing with a country/rock band in the redneck bars, and I knew the words to almost every modern country song that came out. I love my job! :) I guess it's just Fate's way of making me live up to my West Virginia heritage. |
