The usual kiddie stuff was bought for me, but the first one I wanted that was purchased for me was the Sound Of Music soundtrack. I was fortunate enough that my parents bought me all the books and music I could want until I started working in my early teens.
I bought myself three LPs with one of my first paychecks (probably cost me about $10). I'm fairly certain I recall correctly: Neil Young's Harvest, Fragile by Yes, and Edgar Winter's They Only Come Out At Night.

First LP "Black and White" The Stranglers ............ still a great album.
First CD "Love Over Gold" Dire Straights Come to think of it, wasn't Love over Gold the first commercially available CD? Amazing - at the time - to hear a track like Telegraph Road without cracks, bangs, pops, whistles and hiss. |

I was just thinking that years from now someone's answer to this will be Justin Bieber's first album.

I'm fairly sure the first album I ever owned was Jethro Tull's "Songs from the Wood."
I remember the first CD I ever bought was by a little folk/rock band named Tempest. The album was called "Bootleg," but just had the singer's boots on the cover, motion blurred because he was dancing. I still have it, it's not too bad.
